This is not a PC vs Mac thread.....it's a Vista thread.

    I'm a tri-booth person
    OSX, XP Pro and Debian.
You can't have reliability that Linux gives you anywhere...OSX can dream of it.
But it terms of use, OSX wins over any OS outthere right now.
It's cute, it works and it makes middle aged men and yuppie chicks feel good about themself.
XP pro is still the most developed for platform out there and if you're PC litterate, it's sollid as a rock.

Vista on the other hand is neither of those things.
It's sluggish, over stylized (Leopard is getting close to that sadly with the silly transparency all over), doesn't allow seamless workflow and generally needs to be "fooled" to run anything in system level (there goes the security.

As far as safety, neither can come close to *nix.....any flavor.
Last week my bosses daughter password protected her MBP without the intent to do so and wasn't aware of what the password was.
It took me a cup of coffee and Linux/PC methods from '95 to get it to desktop.
OSX isn't as safe as XP let alone Debian.

Microsoft has another shot with Windows 7 to expand on what XP Pro was without the idiocy of Vista.
If they fail to do so, there will be several problems throughout the OS flavors.
First, Windows loses market share so developers step back.
As Mac takes a step back in terms of hardware in certain areas (mostly GFX), the software dev industry will be split down the middle and we'll end up with mediocre products.
Mac popularity increases and with all the attention on them, exploits will become much more wide spread.

This could be a very good thing for *nix, however it's also a reach.

In other words, OSX users....hope to god next Microsoft OS doesn't fail as bad as this one or you might be back to square one....running anti-virus scanners and all.
