Thread: [HELP] Speakers

    Default [HELP] Speakers
Ok, so I was at my local wal-mart [funnnn.. lol] and I saw this logitech speakers and really wanted them for my laptop.

Not thinking, I went ahead and asked my dad to buy them and he did.

Now, I am at home, hooked them all up and went to plug them into my laptop, but there is three cords to plug in

I have two headset jacks, but that doesnt help, so basically, I think this is meant for a desktop only

My question is: Is there some sort of adapter I can purchase to make the headset into a three colored input?[green, orange, and black]

    If that makes sense..

EDIT: I just found an adapter for red and white cables. So my next question is, do you know of a headphone input to a red and white audio cable?

plug the black plug into your headset jack, and turn up your laptop. enjoy music loudly.

But that only does certain speakers.. I want all of them =]

There is 5 speakers and a subwoofer btw.

    Ok, I figured this out..

    Orange
    • Front Center Speaker
    • Subwoofer

    Black
    • Rear Right speaker
    • Front Right speaker

    Green
    • Rear Left
    • Front left speaker

EDIT: It seems that if I use the black and green, for some reason the subwoofer works too. So.. that is my best bet right now.

look at the subwoofer. there should be switch to put the speakers in different modes. Also, read the instruction manual, and it'll tell you which setting to use. Believe me, I had set of 5.1 altec lansing on my old pc, and that's what you do.

Sub woofer only has sub woofer volume.

The instruction manual just tells you where to plug them in.

But what you have to understand, is that, these are made for a desktop, I think. I remember on my old desktop it had these colored inputs, but on a laptop, it doesnt.

I understand, and I would bet money your old desktop did not have those colors, unless you had an upgraded sound card. What speakers (model number and brand) did you buy? Maybe I could help you out if knew exactly what you bought.

So, did some searching and here's what I found. You need a 5.1 card, and there is no "easy" way to get around that. You'll have to get adapters, like you had intended to do. Which IMO sucks b/c most 5.1 systems have a switch to turn that on/off and most manufactures realize that not everyone have 5.1 sound cards.

That might help you out a little, sorry there was no easy fix.

maybe you could go from 5.1 to rca to single input...

That adapter came with it.. but it still doesnt solve my problem, unless there is a headphone input to red and white audio cables.

Does your laptop have 5.1 surround sound card? If not return it and get something that works.

I can only find something that says "Conexant High Definition Audio"

Any advice on that? Or how to find if I have a 5.1 surround sound card?

    I am on Vista btw.
