Thumbs down How is att unwilling to unlock our iphones after 2 years is up not illegal?
Just seems wrong, since they do it for every other device out there, I could understand if the iphone didnt work on any other carrier any way but they do, and even more so, you can buy an iphone right now from ATT full priced and apple will unlock it for you since they now offer them, so what is the difference btw the ones that are bought now from att that are locked and the older ones...nothing. Rant over.

Complain, complain, complain. That's the only way it will change.

I agree if we have have paid for an contract free full priced iphone then it should be unlocked. Especially since they are doing it now for new purchases. Whats the difference between them?

Absolutely nothing, it's just att holding the cards. I wish I had some spare change in the bank to contact a lawyer and see if this could be against the law.

Regardless of which carrier, it's an Apple iPhone. If Apple doesn't want it to happen, it won't happen.

Apple told me its ATT who makes the decision. Not really apple but every rep I have spoken to has told me this.

Apple has control of doing the unlock anyhow. So AT&T would have to call up Apple and say "hey unlock this iPhone" then... regardless, are either of the two companies really fair in regards to unlocking iPhones? Lol.

. I was thinking this too. Being fair to the customer seldom produces addition revenue. And we all know how important those 'corporate jets' are

It will happen got paper work saying it will just not yet patience is a virtue. Att is trying to find away to be fair but not lose to much of the all might dollar

Cowboy can you elaborate more on what paper work you are referring to? Is this something being mailed out to Iphone owners who own their phone outright?

  15. #15
Nope not at all this internal paper work I can't talk much about on a public forums

  16. #16
Completely understandable, like you said patience is virtue

    Good assumption

Ok, so I guess my main concern is do you think it's wise to just update my baseband and lose my unlock? Seeing as how you think AT&T will unlock iphones in the future...
