Default ADVICE: Should I update my 3.1.2 3G Iphone ? To what? and why?
    I have had a 3.12 JB iPhone 3G 8gb for over a year...

    Should I update to 3.1.3 or 4.0 or 4.1 ?

What are the pro's and con's?

Also how can I update it.

I am currently using Custom APN and Stealths Bravo IPCC 6.0 I believe...I do know really I need this!!!!

Pro - New features like multi tasking & gamecenter
Pro - Updates from apps like folderenhancer and many appstore apps only work in 4.0+

Con - 3G doesn't support most of the good stuff and it slows down the phone significantly.
Con - Rejailbreaking, unlocking and downloading the same apps from Cydia

4.1 is suppose to fix the slow speeds on iOS for 3G but I can't confirm this. I don't see huge advantages but there are definitely some.

I wouldnt go to 4.0 or 4.0.1. The lag is painful. If you try to go to 4.1 you are going to have to load custom firmware that preserve your baseband. I would just stay where you are for now.

4.1 fixes the lag on 3G phones compared to 4.0.x, but I find that 3.1.x is still faster. I initially was going to sell my 3G with 4.1 jb and unlocked, but brought it back down to 3.1.2 for the buyer cuz it really does run faster with no lag.

If having folders or native multitask or wallpaper is important to you, then go to 4.1. If not, stay where you are. You can have those features with a jb 3.1.2 of course with categories, backgrounder+proswitcher/kirikae/multifl0w, and winterboard.
