Post How to enable MMS and tethering on an iPhone 3G/s
Attention: This is for Mac users. Windows users might have some difficulties.

    You will need:
    - The files below
    - Your iPhone
    - Another phone capable of using SIM cards and MMS
    - A paperclip

    First off, download:

    Carrier Settings

    Enabling MMS on AT&T:

    1. Use the paperclip to remove the SIM card on your iPhone

    2. Place the SIM card in the other phone.

    3. Call your voicemail several times (hold 1).

    4. Go to AT&T's website and log in on the right.

    5. Make sure the picture of the phone is NOT your iPhone, but the other phone you're using.

    6. On the right, click on "Manage Your Features"

    7. Under messaging, you current iPhone plan will say "iPhone Text Messaging 1500" or something similar.

    8. There will be an option that says Messaging Packages and will say "Messaging 1500". They will be the same price, select this package. This allows for MMS to be enabled.

    9. Click "Next" on the bottom, then "Submit"

    10. Take the SIM card out of the other phone, place it in your iPhone, and make a few calls, Voicemail is fine (hold 1).

    11. Log out and then back in to AT&T's website . It should say that your iPhone is now your phone.

    MMS and tethering enabling:

How to Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes 8.2 in Windows.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + R to open the run dialog. Enter in cmd then click OK

Step 3: Enter the following command into the Command Prompt window.

    "CProgram Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from your Start Menu.

Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Shift key and click the Check for Updates button.

Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out

How to Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes 8.2 in Mac.

    Step 1: Quit iTunes

Step 2: Click to launch Terminal from the dock or from the Applications:Utilities folder.

Step 3: Enter the following command into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from the dock.

Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Option key and click theCheck for Updates button.

Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out

    Credit to StealthBravo for this.

    Now we're working in iTunes:

    3. In iTunes, click on your iPhone on the left, and control-click on "Check for Update"

    4. It'll open up a window to navigate to the "ATT_US.ipcc" file that I attached.

    5. Reboot your iPhone

    6. Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network.

    7. Scroll down to MMS

    8. Type these into the correct fields:

    Code:
    APN: wap.cingular
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: CINGULAR1
    MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]
    9. Reboot iPhone

    10. Go to Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes and get the newest iTunes

    11. Install that, quit iTunes, and move the iTunes folder back to ~/Music/ and replace the old version, and now you have tethering and MMS =]

    To use tethering:

    1. Go to Settings -> General -> Network ->Internet Tethering

    2. Flip the switch to on, and select which mode you wish, either through the cable, or over bluetooth. The cable is the easiest since it charges simultaneously.

Doing the process sans another phone (experimental):

Complete steps 1 thru 9 from the "MMS and tethering enabling" section. If MMS should fail, which it probably will, continue with these steps:

"1. On your iPhone go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network and use these settings for MMS

    Code:
    APN: wap.cingular
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: CINGULAR1
    MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]
    2. Try sending a MMS, it should fail. Once it fails reboot your phone.

    3. Now go into Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network and the username and password that you just entered before the reboot, should be blank. Leave them blank.

    4. RE-APPLY the same ATT_US.ipcc file to your phone, with the previous instructions above.

    5. You should be ready to go."

Appreciate it but this guide is old and outdated. You can mod the current iTunes to use ipccs.

How so? That would be much easier than taking the time to switch iTunes versions.

    Thanks

Ok, I have seen that before, but for some reason it didn't work for me, I think there was a typo, so that's why I didn't use it. I thought it was unreliable.

    I bow down to thee

The pRoblem is now as soon as you change your phone on the AT&T webpage it instantly changes back to iPhone. It doesn't give you the chance to switch to a non iPhone texting package. If you call them and tell them you switched phones, they won't activate mms until they deactivate your iPhone data features...
