Default Unlocked Iphone 2g with old at&t family plan?
I have read several conflicting stories on the web about this. Will at&t know if I'm using an unlocked iPhone (1st gen)? If so, what will they do to my old family plan I'm currently on? Any way to get around extra charges?

you might be able to get away with having the iphone on a regular data plan for a while but they will force you to get a data plan for it due to the imei of the iphones. ATT has a list of them and sniffs them out. they will only make you add the data plan. they wont force you to change your whole family plan because of it

As soon as you put the sim into it it will register on their site as an iPhone. Even which model it is. When I stuck my 2G sim into my 3G the OLAM switched to the 3G phone

Yeah. exactly what the guy above me said if you insert your sim into the iPhone it will show up on their database that your using an iPhone.

Yeah that's what I did. It showed up on attwireless account that im using iPhone the second i inserted my sim. I didn't wanna pay anymore data plan for that so i switched back to my V3. I've read around the forum that you can switch off EDGE service via BossPrefs but haven't tried yet, so I can't say AT&T would really require you to get their iPhone data plan. I'm scared i might have to pay a bigger bill like the guy who had $900 phone bill.
