    Default AT&T & Tethering
I remember hearing a while back that AT&T was going to crack down on people tethering their iPhones.

I didn't think much of it since I never got it to work until curiosity got the best of me today.

Does any one know if they are cracking down? If so what is the penalty?

Legally they can't do much other than tell you to knock it off, unless your data plan has a cap on it in the paperwork/TOS you signed. Haven't heard any reports of anyone having any consequences.

I used the instructions found here:

    http://www.modmyi.com/forums/showthr...ight=tethering

but instead of using the SOCKS server I used Tinyproxy. Instructions are also there in that thread for how to configure Tinyproxy. Works like a charm...

So you are just plugging them in and you get internet on your laptop via the phone? I can't get the laptop to see my connection that I create.

When I connect via Wi-fi the computer shows it as local only because it doesn't know that we are connecting via a proxy. In firefox you have to set it up to connect via the proxy as per the instructions and the web will work. Windows however will not fully recognize that there is internet.

EDGE isn't all that fast, haven't ran a speed test but in my case I have been using it strictly for those moments that I need internet and don't have access otherwise, which isn't very often. Seems pretty stable so far...
