Thread: Transferring App Data from ipt1g to ipt3g

Default Transferring App Data from ipt1g to ipt3g
    Hey guys,
I'm planning on buying an iPod touch 3g when it comes out(my original touch is on eBay already) and one thing I would really like is to have my downloaded songs on TTR2 and my data for Rolando transfered to the new iPod. I know I could just restore from backup, but I am worried about possible speed loss. Does anyone know if there really is a hit from restoring from backup and if jailbreaking affects the backup? Or does anyone know a cleaner way to accomplish this?

    Thanks,
    deftonix

It seems to only take up extra space if u restore from backup. You should wait for more answers though because i haven't experimented a ton with it

You can SSH your app data out. I dont think you will have too much restoring from backup in this case. You won't be jailbreaking it for a long time

so are you saying that I should just restore from my current backup? or should I ssh my app data out(TTR and Rolando only), restore it to stock, jailbreak it again, then ssh my app data back in? Would that create a cleaner restore point?

    Thanks.

I am saying that your only option will be to restore from backup because you wont be able to jailbreak it for a long time.

I don't think people quite get how the cat and mouse game works and the work it takes to get a new jailbreak...

Getting more and more of these conversations:
"I can't wait until I get the new ipod touch so I can JB it!"
"You probably won't be JBing it for a while"
"why not?! It only took them 2 weeks to JB the 3GS"
    "... here we go againnnn....."

I completely understand that. I never said I was going to jailbreak the new touch. I know the work it takes to do a jailbreak and that I might not see a jailbreak for this touch for a long time. I am talking about creating a clean restore on my 1g touch.
Does restoring from backup create all the problems people say it does? I haven't done much playing around with the backups.

    Thanks

Restoring from backup can cause some issues however, it is not as big of a deal as people on here will lead you to believe. You will not have an option but to restore from backup to keep your application data

Do you think that if I restore my iPod touch 1g and ssh in only those 2 apps' data and then create a backup, a I will have better results?

possibly. But if your touch 1g is going to be on the same FW as the new ipod touch, restoring from a backup shouldn't cause much (if any) trouble.
