best way i found is get a kensington FM transmitor, ie 1 of these

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nplm=TD145LL/A

they are cheaper else where online and it DOES involve buying something HOWEVER i have found sound quality to be on the level of my hispeed ipod cable I have for my alpine HU that i use in car. ALSO this doubles as a car charger and works awesome. i rarely get interference. only thing i don't like is sometimes when i'm playin the ipod and the car was in acc and i turn the car on, i have to unplug the iphone and plug it back in, else it doesn't work (sometimes)

    FM Transmitter.

Just checked and under-$10 yields a lot of results.

remember the headphone socket is recessed, for this to fit, it must be the same width as the iphone headphone jack

If your steroe has an AUX jack, you can just use an AUX cable like I do. It plugs into the headphone jack on the iPhone, and it plays through the AUX input. You can't control the iPhone with the stereo, but I don't care about that personally.

If you do a search, there's several places that show how to mod your stereo to have an AUX in jack if it doesn't come with one already on the faceplate. Also several sites show how to mod your stereo to include an iPhone adapter. Can't remember any of them, since I require any car stereo I have to have an external AUX jack on the faceplate for the reasons I stated above, but if you search Google you'll find it.

I just thought I'd add that if you don't want to chop off a piece of your fm transmitter, you can put the iPhone on the dock it came with and connect it to the line out in the back of that.

That's been mentioned several times. It's also cumbersome, and a general PITA IMHO.
