Thread: Updated to 4.3.5 tethered jailbreak? Don't lose hope!!!!

Default Updated to 4.3.5 tethered jailbreak? Don't lose hope!!!!
This is my experience the last couple days.

OK....I picked up an Apple refurbished 3GS 32gb that was running 4.3.5.
The previous owner jailbroke (tethered) and updated the BB to 06.15.00.
Don't ask me how, but he bricked the hell out of it.
After a couple hours of dinking around I got the tethered jailbreak back.
No matter what I tried I could not get the phone to accept a downgrade.
I re-bricked it several times, getting iTunes 3194 and 1600 errors.
After giving up, I just resigned myself to the fact I would have to wait for the untethered 4.3.5 JB to come out.
After shelving it for a day, (Very important if you're frustrated) I started over.

I did 2 things that were critical in my quest for an untethered JB and an unlock.

    1. My PC is running Windows 7. I switched to another computer that was running XP Pro.
    2. I noticed that Cydia had SHSH ios 4.1 saved.

I used Redsn0w 0.9.6rc16 to put the phone into DFU and did a restore with an iPhone2,1_4.1 Custom Restore. I think Tinyumbrella v5.00.00 had "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" UNCHECKED. Not sure though.

Voila! it restored to 4.1 and I didn't even have to re-jailbreak. It also unlocked with Ultrsn0w.
I also confirmed this on a different iPhone 3GS, which I had totally bricked every-which-way to Sunday.
So I guess the first thing to do is change computers.
Then check Cydia for a saved 4.1 SHSH blob.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I thought I'd share my experience.

    Thanks

Very true. Get those SHSH blobs !!
Apple is signing 4.1 for some (maybe all) 3G and 3GS iPhones.

A 4.1 untethered jailbreak is better than a tethered anything

My Iphone3gs lost alot of icons and all I could do was update it a few weeks ago to 4.3.4 tethered. I've been reading that apple is still signing 4.1 and I'm now showing I have 4.1 SHSH. So what do I do different to downgrade to 4.1 since apple is still signing it? Why's it important that apple is still signing it if I'd have to do the same process to downgrade?

So in essence this isn't important to those with SHSH from 4.1.? Could I restore to 4.1 without using redsnow then use jailbreakme?

Weirdly my phone went the apple logo today so I tried to restore to 4.1 to avoid the tethered 4.3.4 and I get an error 1015. I tried tinyumbrella to exit recovery do you have any suggestions?

Yes and No! You'll have a stock Apple 4.1 iPhone. If you want it jailbroken you must use Redsnow and install Cydia. Jailbreakme is for 4.3.3 only!

Actually there's no redsn0w that works for iphone 3gs 4.1 FW you must use sn0wbreeze 2.1 from iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones Here's the way I got it all lined out.
    1. Go download stock 4.1 fw
    2. Put device into dfu
    3. Shift Click Restore.
4.After you do a stock restore it should complete but you will more than likely get an error 1015 so
    5.use TinyUmbrella to exit recovery

Phone should boot up but not jailbroken

    6. Download sn0wbreeze 2.1
    7. create your custom 4.1 ipsw/firmware
    8. Put phone into dfu mode again
    9. Sn0wbreeze will make a custom 4.1 and add iut to your desktop
    10. Go to itunes shift click restore choose the 4.1 sn0wbreeze put on your desktop and voila yer done!

You didn't have to restore to stock 4.1 if you want to restore to cfw 4.1, you can just go direct.
To jailbreak at 4.1 , you use redsn0w rc6 or limeraIn or GP.

I had it all worked out. Charged my phone and woke up to 1 signal bar/no service. I tried to restore and rejailbreak it was successful besides the signal again, 1bar/no service. My baseband is 05.16.02 with straight talk sim. I tried to use redsnow in place of snowbreeze no luck with the signal bar. I finall updated to 4.3.5 and magically the signal bars are working properly so I guess Ill jailbreak this and use tethered if it works in a few minutes.

You will not get an unlock on 05.16.02 BB.
If you want an unlock, you need to downgrade to 4.1 and change the BB to 06.15.00.
I just downgraded a 3gs to 4.1 STOCK firmware about 10 minutes ago.
Tinyumbrella had "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" unchecked.

Keep reading and failing. That's how I learn........

I don't need an unlock straight talk works fine in the at&t iphone. As soon as you pop the sim in you can text and call and download a mobileconfig file you're on 3g! I just keep losing signal bars each time I jailbreak whether it be 4.1 or 4.3.4....At first there might be a carrier and signal but it soon fades to no service and doesn't come return. I
But once again I don't need the ipad baseband I was about ready to do that as a last resort. This phone was previously unlocked on 3.1.3 w/ ultrasn0w.

    Oh, I see.....
You might try a network reset.
I've heard of some apps that enhance signal.

@monty1414: What iOS version are you trying to restore to?

    Error 3194
Occurs when trying to install an old firmware and Apple's server disallows the installation.
iTunes Errors - The iPhone Wiki
Restoring to a non-current iOS requires previously saved SHSH blobs.
