I need to downgrade me phone in order to jailbrake and finally unlock it. Is it possible to downgrade from 4.2?

You should be able to downgrade to 4.1, but you wont be able to unlock yet. You will probably get an error at the end of the restore process. Just use tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery when you do.

as x98car suggested, restore to official 4.1 so that your baseband will be downgraded (it will only downgrade if you restore to 4.1, if you restore to any other firmware it will remain where it is now), from there depending on which device and/or blobs you have you can restore to a different firmware if that is what you want and then re-jailbreak

Yes. Apple is currently allowing 4.1. Nothing special is needed.

Maybe we'll get lucky with an unlock after 4.2 is officially released (if you don't upgrade to 4.2)

Was it on 4.0.2 the whole time? What is your modem firmware (go to settings-general-about and scroll down)

that may be a costly typo if they meant 4.0.2 and have already followed our suggestion to go to 4.1 if they rely on an unlock, that is why in my first post i asked how they got on 4.2

Then we would have told him he couldn't unlock...
You don't have to downgrade, if it is a 3gs or iphone 4, just jailbreak it with Limera1n and unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydia.

My modem firmware is 05.13.04 does that make sense?

    It's still on 4.0.2 I didn't jailbreak it yet.

    I tried limera1n but it didn't work.

Yes, you can still unlock it. Do you want to get to jailbroken at 4.1.
What you need is a cusom firmware of 4.1, but for PC : you need redsn0w 0.9.6b2 to get you into DFU mode or if you have a mac : then use Pwnage tools to get you into DFU mode too. Once at DFU : Shift + Restore to custom fw 4.1

OR if you want to jailbreak at 4.0.2, you can do so with Limera1n jailbreak. Install Ultrasn0w to unlock from Cydia.

If limera1n didnt work for you the first time try doing it on another computer, or you can follow Yeow's instructions for restoring to a custom firmware.

Just to double-check, since I don't think I saw it explicitly stated...

Do you have an iPhone 3G, or a 3GS?

Limera1n will work on iOS 4.0.2 for the 3GS, but not the 3G... could be a large part of your problem, lol.

If it's a 3GS, use PwnageTool 4.1.2 (OS X only)to make a custom IPSW and start the restore process (pwned DFU in PT, then over to iTunes for the actual restore).

If it's a 3G... use PwnageTool 4.1.2 as well, same process. Just make sure to point to a iPhone1,2 IPSW rather than an iPhone2,1 one.

(If you don't have a Mac, we'll deal with that in a later post).

You can upgrade/downgrade to 4.1 and jb any iPhone using PwnageTool 4.1.2 .... and ultrasn0w will unlock 5.13.x and below (3G. 3GS). It's the best and safest way. An unlock for 5.14.x baseband is expected after 4.2 is released.

Always use a custom firmware to preserve your unlock/baseband.

Thanks everyone, I just unlocked it. First used limera1n to jailbreak and then ultrasn0w to unlock.
