    Default Bypassing the Overlord
    Apple is Hitler

    I need to downgrade this stupid iPhone that apparently isn't mine but the Holy Apple Corporation's

    Looking at the instructions to bypass the overlord it says:

    So, open the file C: \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

    Where do I find that I have a MAC. And there is no etc folder on my disk?

    Followed the directions so the file looks like this.

    #
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    ##
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    fe80::1%lo0 localhost
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

    Is the server able to handle 3.1.3 firmware?

    Having problems with DFU mode... I can't seem to get the phone into DFU mode when I press and hold the two buttons home and power the only thing that happens is the phone shows me the off switch... then it resets and the apple logo appears

    Is this a 3g iphone ? If it is , just Shift + Restore to 3.1.3, you don't need to edit your hosts file.

    If you have an iPhone 3G, you can downgrade simply by placing the phone in DFU and restoring to 3.1.3 twice (once from DFU, then if you're stuck in recovery mode after the 1015 error, restore again, and use TinyUmbrella to kick the device out of recovery mode).

    If you have a 3GS, you cannot downgrade your firmware without the SHSH blobs unfortunately.
