Under the Usb universal bus controller, you highlighted apple device, then properties, then detail , device instance path, is that right ?

I just ran TU & did a bunch stuff with buttons & successfully saved 4.1 blobs to cydia lol I even check on the phone & now 4.1 is in the list of saved SHSH..So Im guessing that means I have the old bootrom..? Or it would not have saved...?

K true story the wifes phone has no IBOOT either..what the hells goin on with our phones..lol Both are JB'ed with jailbreakme.com something to do with the JB maybe..?

Is the 4.1 shsh blogs shown on the front page of Cydia or do you have any other shsh blogs. 4.1 is no good for now, no JB and NO unlock.

Good, that is awesome. But now you have to comfirm about your bootrom first.

Your serial number is at the border line between Yes and No to bootroms.

One more tool you can use to check, USBview

This is what you do : Put your iphone into DFU mode :
DFU mode : Plug in your iphone when it is ON, hold Home and Power for 10 secs, and release the Power but hold the Home button for another 10 secs until you hear a sound from Pc, then let go, Screen is black.
    Now run USBview
Under Option : Check the Config Decriptors
    Hit F5 to refresh
Scroll down to the Apple conected device
Right pane, you have to make the screen larger
Now move the bottom slider to the right, you will see your bootrom status.

    It looks like this :
    Device Descriptor:
    bcdUSB: 0x0200
    bDeviceClass: 0x00
    bDeviceSubClass: 0x00

Congrats , you have the oldbootrom.
and you said you have 3.1.3 shsh blogs , right.

Nevermind about the 3.1.3 shsh blogs.
Now I can get you to use custom firmware and go all the way to jailbroken 4.1.This is what you do.
To jailbreak at IOS 4.0 first :Make sure you have the latest Itunes which is 10.0.1
    Run tiny Umbrella version 4.1.4
    Plug in your iphone
    Click Adv Tab
    Device/Version : Select 3GS 4.0 shsh blogs
    Request : Cydia
    Click Save Shsh
Wait for answer : You should get Yes, it will succeed message.
    Now Start Tss Server
Do the Shift + Restore to 3gs 4.0 ipsw
Once Restored, put your official sim card to activate.
Go to Jailbreakme 2.0 and do the jailbreak.
You are now jailbroken at 4.0
    Update Cydia.
    From Cydia install Jbme2pwn
Once installed, reboot your iphone again.

To jailreak at 4.1 :Download Snowbreeze 2.0.2 and download 3gs 4.1 ipsw
Create your Snowbreeze in Expert mode, under General > Uncheck Activate my iphone.
Build your custom firmware and it will be placed on your desktop called Snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw
Now Do the Shift + Restore to Snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw
You arrive at Emergency Screen, put your official sim card to activate
Now you are jailbroken at 4.1
Open up Cydia, update it and install Ultrasn0w to unlock.
That is it, you are all set...eh..eh

If you have used jailbreakme at 3.1.3, then you can just install jbme2pwn first, google search for the repo.
Then proceed to building the custom firmware and restore to it.

You can only use custom firmware to preserve your baseband if you have the old bootrom. Check your bootrom status first : How to Check iPhone 3GS Bootrom Version | iPhone 3G S
If you have the newbootrom and you want to stay unlocked, then you can only restore to 4.0.1 ipsw with Shsh blogs.
If you have the old bootrom, using spirit as your jailbreak, you will need to make it compatible first before proceeding to use custom firmware.

I have a quick question after Im done & finished going to 4.1 if none of my contacts are in iTunes do I manually have to add them all again..? Or can I hit restore from backup (after making backup with 3.1.3) & all will be good again..?

Oh & seeing as how my phone doesnt need to be unlocked can I not just upgrade to 4.1 via iTunes then jailbreak it..? Doing it this way I would be stuck @ 4.1 tho right I couldnt downgrade if I think 4.1 sux..
And also if iTunes is synced with my phone on 3.1.3 will it give me a error syncing again (after updating to 4.1) because their the 3.1.3 version of the app & not 4.1...Does that make sense..lol

Your contacts is actually sync from your Contacts in Microsoft outlook, yahoo address book, goolge contacs, windows contacts through Itunes. It must be in one of those, but if you reformat your pc, all your contacts will be gone. If you reinstall Itunes, your contacts is still in your computer.
If you don't have anything in your computer, then i am afraid you have to add one by one.

You can click info in Itunes to see which one you usuallly sync it too.

However, if you have an ipod or any idevice and you have synced your contacts on it too, then you can sync your contacts from Ipod to pc through Itunes.
Once this is done, you can sync your contacts from pc through Itunes back to your restored iphone.

Any way to SHSH to get them off..?
How to I add the contacts from the phone to iTunes ? Does it not just "sync" the phone with iTunes which has none of my contacts in it
god I wish they would "fix" windows based iTunes so you can add remove anything from phone to iTunes or vise versa but that'll never happen lol

Yes, it will sync whatever contacts on your idevice into Outlooks if you have it installed.
