Thread: How to Downgrade from 4.1 to 3.1.2. on 3GS?

Default How to Downgrade from 4.1 to 3.1.2. on 3GS?
    Specs:

Iphone 3GS JB with Pwnage, and redsnow previously.

    Mac OSX with iTunes 8.2
    Windows XP with iTunes 9.

Long story short, I went on vacation, and when I went to switch my phone back upon landing, I got stuck on the pineapple logo, and was forced to upgrade to this 4.1. I lost all my contacts, pics, info etc...

Now I can't seem to do anything with this phone, which is very "meh..." for lack of a better term.

I'm trying to restore it to the firmwares I have saved on my Mac, but iTunes is now singing the "this iphone cannot be restored with this version of itunes... needs to be 9.2 or higher..." song. On my PC, it threw me the 3194 error issue.

I updated the hosts page with the 74. apple.com on both mac and pc as well.

I have itunes 8.2 on my Mac just because I never really updated it but im glad I didn't because there are several backups of my phone on this particular itunes, which I'd like to backup to if at possible.

I was thinking about downgrading this 4.1 back to my 3.1.2, and re-jailbreaking from there. Seems like it'd be the best route to go, but if anyone knows a better option, would you be so kind as to share some info with me?

This is more than frustrating at the moment.

    Thanks.

In addition, i'll take any downgrade at this point.

3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, just anything that is jailbreakable is fine with me.

    Thanks.

    Guide :
    Download tiny umbrella version 4.1.4
    Plug your bootable iphone in
    Run Tiny Umbrella
Click Advance and under Device /Versin select the correct shsh you want to save onto your pc
    Request : from Cydia
Wait for answer, if the answer is Yes , it will succeed
Clic Display Shsh to see if it is there.
Then Put your iphone into DFU mode
Start Tss Server ( you must select the 4.0.1 shsh blogs under Device too )
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1
    Hopefully everything goes well.

Note : if it is not happening , go check your hosts file to see if only this line is there :
127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com and the rest comment out with this #.

    Cheers.

So i've followed your advice, and this is how far i've gotten:

"Start Tss Server ( you must select the 4.0.1 shsh blogs under Device too )
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1"

I can't get the Start Tss Server to come out of grey.

However, i'm wondering if this is the problem:

Maybe Port 80- has to open in order to proceed, but I have no clue on how to do that. Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

Also, the hosts page only boasts this line which I entered earlier in attempts to fix this situation.

    "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com"

Quick question whilst I remember, if I update iTunes on my Mac, will I lose my backups? I have 2 backups from August that are in there under iTunes>Preferences>Devices.

I'm currently running 8.2 but I hear 10 is the newest? I'd like to use those backups since they'd probably have alot of my contacts, and information in there.

    Just another option really.

    Thanks again.

All of the 127's do not have the "#" in front of them. Are they supposed to?

Wow, you have too many things going, can you temporary mark everything with # and leave only the 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com.
I am trying to help you troubleshoot the greyed out tss server.

It should look like this :
    # xxxx.xxx.x..xx
    # xxxx.xxx.x.xx
    127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

Ok, can you comfirm that you have 4.0.1 shsh blogs, did TU grab the 4.0.1 ipsw for you?

  14. #11
Make sure you're not running Skype. Make sure also your Port 80 is free (if you're running a proxy server, uncheck that option as well.)

I believe so. There was a green section that was lit up in the log once I connected my device but i've since tried it to no avail. Should I post the log?

From your picture, the reason why TSS SERVER is greyed out is because you do not have your iphone connected. If it was connected it would not say Connect a Device. It would show your iphone model.

If u can't use TSS server, point your hosts file to Cydia and then restore to 4.0.1

I purposely took the screenshot that way to keep my information off the internet.

And how would I go about pointing my hosts to Cydia?

If you have 4.0.1 shsh blogs with Cydia.
Run Notepad as Admin ( Vista/Win7) and open up to the hosts file and add this line to it.
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
save it and reboot your pc.
Then do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1

So I added the line, rebooted, and attempted the 4.0.1 restore. Here's what the log said before:

09/28/2010 14:02:45.609 Processing SHSH Request... 09/28/2010 14:02:45.640 Asking CYDIA for SHSH blobs for iPhone3GS 4.1 (8B117)... 09/28/2010 14:03:20.937 SHSH SUCCESSFULLY saved! [Click Here to Open] 09/28/2010 14:03:20.953 You have saved your SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version. 09/28/2010 14:03:20.968 Caching shsh files... 09/28/2010 14:03:20.968 Found [1] shsh files to cache... 09/28/2010 14:03:21.015 Cached [1] shsh files 09/28/2010 14:03:24.375 TSS Accepting connections... 09/28/2010 14:03:24.390 TSS Server Started! 09/28/2010 14:03:24.406 Killing iTunes... Restart it to restore your device... 09/28/2010 14:05:01.640 TSS Accepting connections...

Now everytime I tried to restore it, itunes went to the "Extracting software" stage, but the second it hit the "Verifying Restore with Apple" portion, it threw me a new 3002 code.

Don't know where to go from here. And I did try the restore with several firmwares, and all of them reached the same 3002 point.

Look, you haven't even stored your 4.0.1 in your tiny umbrella, how can you restore to 4.0.1, you have only cache 4.1 which is not necessary to restore to 4.0.1, don't get mixed up with 4.0.1 and 4.1 , hugh difference.

    You should do this : Device/Version : Select 3GS, 4.0.1 shsh blogs
    Request : Cydia
    Save Shsh
    Wait for answer.

I know this is driving you crazy, and you are also driving me crazy...LOL

First and foremost, I appreciate your time. This is very frustrating, and I don't see what else can be done at this point, but regardless of the outcome, I do appreciate the effort you putforth.

    Cheers.

Secondly, 4.0.1 doesn't show up as "Found." The only device that can be restored is 4.1.

    Here's the answer for 4.0.1:

09/28/2010 15:39:53.515 Processing SHSH Request... 09/28/2010 15:39:53.625 Asking CYDIA for SHSH blobs for iPhone3GS 4.0.1 (8A306)... 09/28/2010 15:42:08.750 This device isn't eligible for the requested build. 09/28/2010 15:42:08.765 CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPhone3GS 4.0.1 (8A306) THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE.

    Pretty much self explanatory.

Here's the 4.1. answer: The only one that can be found btw.

    09/28/2010 15:54:29.343 Processing SHSH Request... 09/28/2010 15:54:29.500 Asking CYDIA for SHSH blobs for iPhone3GS 4.1 (8B117)... 09/28/2010 15:54:42.031 SHSH SUCCESSFULLY saved!
