    Download the latest Tiny Umbrella.
Grab all your shsh from Cydia and it will be stored locally.
Select from Tiny Umbrella 4.0.1 shsh
    Start your Tiny Server
Put your Iphone into Recovery Mode.
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1
Hopefully it works like a Charm.

You can click Display shsh to see if it is on your pc.

You may or may not encounter error at the very end, if it happens, then there is a box " kick out of recovery " in Tiny Umbrella.

Make sure you have atleast Itunes 9.2. Have you tried in DFU mode. If running the tiny server doesn't help.
Point your hosts file to Cydia by adding this line
    74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
save it and do the restore to either 4.0 or 4.0.1 ipsw.

Yeah, you need iTunes 9.2 if you want to upgrade to iOS4.x
