Question Is apple still signing 4.0.1
does anyone know if i can downgrade a friends 3GS back to 4.0.1. I know as of yesterday people were still able to downgrade saying apple had been signing 4.0.1

I don't think so. If you have your SHSH saved to cydia, then it can be done relatively easy. See my post in this post:

As of 12:30 they were. Download tiny firmware umbrella and see if it saves them.

Saved 4.0.1 blobs on my mom's new iPhone 4 at 5:07PM on 8/13/10. Can't figure why they were still signing, but I didn't complain.

As of 9:44pm est time on 8/14/10 apple is still signing 4.0.1. So you can shift+click restore to it even without shsh's on file.

Yes. Apple is still signing 4.0.1 which means you can simply download the 4.0.1 firmware and then do a shift-restore in iTunes, pointing to the downloaded firmware file.

The SHSH file is actually an Apple signature. Using that, you can downgrade to the specific version that you stored the SHSH for, but as Apple is still legitimately signing 4.0.1 you don't need the SHSH yourself as it's provided by Apple.

You can use the Firmware Umbrella to store the 4.0.1 SHSH file as well, so you can use it once Apple stops signing it.

Yeah, I just saw a tweet by MuscleNerd that it's down. Not sure when it'll be back up.
