Default Downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.2 on iPhone 3GS new bootrom problem
    I have a iPhone 3GS which I had jailbroken on 3.1.2.

I stupidly upgraded my iPhone to 4.0 & want to downgrade back to 3.1.2 so I can re-jailbreak. It has the latest bootrom.

The SHSH file is saved on the Cydia server. I know the ECID for my jailbroken 3.1.2. I had JB'd using blackra1n.

I am running iTunes 9.2.0.61 on Windows 7 Ultimate.

Is there a way I can downgrade my iPhone OS from 4.0 back to 3.1.2?
I have tried holding SHIFT while pressing RESTORE, but all it does is re-install OS 4.0 on my iPhone.

How do I go about downgrading my OS? Is there anyway at the moment I can jailbreak my iPhone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Adam

I tried your guide but when I press Restore in iTunes, it just tries to download OS 4.0 again. I am using the latest version of iTunes.

Hold down the "Shift" button and click on Restore. It will let you pick the 3.1.3 firmware file for the restore.

Of course you have to edit your hosts file first, then press the Shift key on the keyboard and hold it and press restore button in Itunes, a box will open up and you have to browse the the firmware you downloaded.

iTunes still doesn't let me do that. I'm out of ideas.

That is impossible, when you click shift + restore, tell me what happens? You cannot get any help if you don't described in detail. All you say is Itunes won't let me is not going to help you, OMG

I put my iPhone into DFU mode, it is plugged in to my laptop.
I hold the left SHIFT key & press RESTORE in iTunes, it comes up with a window about installing iOS 4.0. It does not let me pick a file location on my laptop to pick a restore file from.

I followed the guide posted just after my initial post to the letter, just I keep getting 4.0 on my iPhone instead of downgrading to 3.1.2.

you are probably using a windows vista laptop which has a fingerprint. try these steps on a windows XP or windows 7 that doesnt have the fingerprint thing.
