Thread: Can my 3GS be downgraded?

  1. #1
Question Can my 3GS be downgraded?
    I have a iPhone 3GS:
    - Old bootroom (checked with a tool, said tethered; no)
    - iOS 4.0
    - 05.13.04
    - Never been jailbroken before

I'd like to go down to 3.1.2 so I can upgrade to 4.0 later but mainly so I can use it since I have t-mobile, need to unlock it. Is that possible? I tried the basic downgrade but I kept getting the 3194 error. I've been searching around for an answer for quite a while but can't seem to get it If it is possible, if you can provide a how-to link that would be amazing

Ok, it DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU HAVE ITUNES 9.2, download your firmware from felix.....make sure that you put your device in DFU mode NOT RECOVERY MODE-you should NOT see the apple logo or the connect to itunes picture: your idevice should be black as though it was shut off- hold home button and power button at the same time for about ten seconds then release the power button keep pressing the home button(You might have to be very patient and repeat if it does not work the 1st try)-make sure your idevice is still black, nothing on it, if not repeat the steps until it is. It does not matter if itunes does not come up just make sure your device is in DFU mode.

Open itunes and restore idevice to your firmware!!

You can call me TNK. No if you just backup your iPod with iTunes and follow my method you should be able to downgrade. This method worked for me, when I had the 3.1.3 firmware an I wanted to downgrade it to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

Alright I'm doing it right now, I'm in DFU mode and on iTunes I got a 3194 error. Same thing happens when I'm in recovery mode. Note I am on 4.0 software. What should I do now?

This will not work on a 3GS without the SHSH files saved.

Ok I used TinyUmbrella to save the SHSH and at the end it said "Cached [1] shsh files". Was that it? What should I do next? Thanks for the help everyone.

You have 4.0 shsh files cashed. You need 3.1.x which you can't get anymore. You are stuck u till the new jailbreak is release.

Hey guys, don't mean to add on to a finished thread and all but, I have a friend whose phone is on 3.1.2/3(don't think it matters), I'm curious if I could use her SHSH blobs for my phone, which is in the same state as OP. Are SHSH blobs unique to phones? Is their a way to trick my phone to downgrade using hers?

No, SHSH files are unique to each phone.

The problem is not with the downgrade, that can be done pretty easily. The problem lies, when trying to restore from backup, itunes will throw you an error stating "software is too old to restore" I am trying to get past this problem also.

maybe the solution would be a hack for iTunes
