So I saved my blobs to cydia, but I exchanged my device @ the apple store...is there anyway to go and get them from cydia?

No. They're device specific meaning they won't work for your new phone.

Looks like I'm in the same shoes.

Received 3GS in Restore mode (firmware 3.1.3, old bootrom), tried JBing it so that I can unlock it to use with my local network. Crashed while JBing and somehow ended up with the latest 4.0.1 firmware. Don't have any blob saved with the old firmware, therefore can't downgrade back to 3.1.3 or 3.1.2.

Iphone 3GS is bricked for now until a fresh JB is released for 4.0.1.

Hi, I read your elaborated post, but I still have some questions because different ways are leading to different answers

version model modem firmware serial forcast tethered boot
    4.0(8A293) MC137LL 5.13.04 88926a7z3nr no 6.4
    4.0(8A293) MB717LL 5.13.04 5K00203Y3NR Maybe depens if refurb 6.4
    4.0(8A293) MB718LL 5.13.04 5K0221333NS Maybe depens if refurb 6.4
    4.0(8A293) MC137LL 5.13.04 88931MSB3NR no 6.4
    4.0.1(8A306) MB717LL 5.13.04 86924y663nr no 6.4

As far as I know MC can't and MB can be Jailbreaked and Lower than 940 can and higher than that can't bejailbreaked.

I have 2 MCs with smaller than 940 and I have 2 MBs with higher than 940 and one MB smaller than 940 but with an OS 4.0.1 and its very confusing to know which ones are new bootroms and which ones are old bootroms!!!
which one of these are Jailbreakable and can you please illustrate why?

None of them can be jailbroken. For 3GS phones, what matters is what firmware it is on. Currently, a 3GS already on 4.0.x can't be jailbroken by anything.

Regarding the bootrom of the phone, MB/MC doesn't mean anything on the 3GS. It's a widespread misunderstanding, so don't bother with that. You should be looking at either the serial number, or the version of the bootrom (iBoot).

    thanks,
Well i know that I should look for the 3to forth number and see if it is smaller than 940 then it means that it is old bootrom.
but there are someother ways that show me that my iphone is new bootrom, like looking into the device path at the DFU mode, so i am still confused.

    Thanks

What are you confused about? You've just explained how to find out.

If anyone can offer any advice for the following it would be a huge help. I'v been pulling my hair out over this!

Recently purchased a 2nd hand Iphone 3Gs. Had it unlocked in a shop (no idea what programme was used), worked perfectly when I got it home to the UK. Plugged it into Itunes the other day and updated to 4.0.2 (unaware of the consequences). unit works (ipod, safari, etc) but phone does not work. I know that I am running the old boot room, cydia is no longer on the phone and I did not have my blobs saved.

    What are my options?

Also, any advice for the same problem with an Iphone 3G (my friend with a 3G did the same thing) would be appreciated.

    thanks!

Right now Apple is still signing 4.0.1 so you don't need shsh blobs saved to go back to that. Download a 4.0.1 from the downloads section of this site and shift+click restore to that. Once it finishes the restore go to jailbreakme.com through safari on your phone to jailbreak. Do or quick though, there's no telling how long apple will continue to sign 4.0.1.

    thank. I am downloading now.

Can you please give more specific instructions on how I use this download please?

I dont really understand what you mean by 'shift+click'

    Thank you very much!

Hold the shift key while clicking the restore button in iTunes. Then choose the firmware you downloaded.

    Thanks again.

Does the phone need to be in DFU mode while I do this? Anything else need to be does after this or is it as simple as it sounds?

Nope, no need for DFU mode. It really should be as simple as it sounds.

Yes, you'll need to jailbreak again. You can do that by going to jailbreakme.com through safari on your phone.

Thanks again, you have been a big help! So far its going well!

Is jailbreakme.com pretty fool proof? I have absolutely no technical knowledge when it comes to this sort of stuff

ok, I finished the restore and I'm being prompted to insert a sim card (before restore phone was operational without a simcard) and connect to Itunes to activate.

I tunes says my sim is not supported. I bought the phone in the U.S and am using a U.K sim with it..

    Maybe this is my answer?
sorry for the insane amount of posting, just keen to get this over and done with tonight.

Yes, jailbreakme is preety fool proof. Just go to the site and slide the bar that says "jailbreakme", but you will need a sim from an offial carrier(if it came from the us AT&T), or a phone book sim. sn0wbreeze will only work if your phone has an old bootrom and already jailbroken.

so instructions for all the jailbreaks say that iphone must be already jailbroken. My Iphone was jailbroken but then became 'unbroken' when I upgraded the software. Does this still mean I can use snowbreez.
And just to clarify also, having restored to 4.0.1 my iphone is iSO 4.0? (seem the jailbreaks are specific to this)

also, my phone does have old bootroom. Will I do any damage if I try to run snowbreeze now?
