Thread: Downgrading from iOS4 to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 without SHSHs

Default Downgrading from iOS4 to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 without SHSHs
    Hello,
I was wondering what's the big deal with shshs. Are they somehow connected with the firmware? They are unique for each phone and iOS if I'm right, yet the number of processor or whatever is used for generating this hash is only one for each phone. So, why aren't we able to simply grab this number and generate shsh for every firmware?

I'm asking because I'm stucked with iOS4 and no shsh.
    Thank you

Because apple now verifies what version of firmware your phone should have (for 3GS and newer)and the only way to "downgrade" to an earlier version of the firmware is to bypass Apple's server. The only way to bypass Apple's server is to have those SHSH files saved for the previous firmwares. It is all explained on Saurik's site.

Actually I've already read that and I understand this part. It's hardly what I was talking about. I'll try to ask it in another words: Firmware being restored (in fact, just it's version) is being validated with apple. In return, we don't recieve valid/invalid boolean, but some shsh, which is generated from iphone hardware and from the version of firmware it should have. So, we only need these hardware numbers to generate our own shsh without apple and we don't need to have the firmware itself installed, is that right? Well, probably not since downgrading is still quite complicated, I was wondering why we don't do that. Is the hashing algorithm unknown or what?

Yes the algorithm is unknown, otherwise we could just create our own.....
