Thread: The Ultimate Downgrade Tutorial

  1. #61
    Hi everyone.
Been lurking for a while, trying one thing or another to downgrade my iPhone 3GS 4.0 with new baseband.
I luckily had my SHSH blobs on file, and using this method, have successfully downgraded to 3.1.3 from 4.0.

    Thank you all so much!

    2. Plug in your iDevice. In iTunes, hold shift then click 'restore'. Locate the firmware you just downloaded and let the restore begin.

    3. After a bit, you should get error 1015. If you get ANYTHING else, try the process again.

Close iTunes but Leave the iphone plugged in with connect to itunes screen showing.

    2. Download this old quickpwn from EITHER website:

    Medifire OR MegaUpload

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH SITE YOU CHOOSE, THEY BOTH HAVE THE QUICKPWN NEEDED.

(Thanks bigtony423 for the idea to add an extra link)

    3. Extract Quickpwn (free extractor) BUT DO NOT RUN IT. This is where it can get a bit tricky, so pay attention.

    Navigate to:

32-bit windows: C: Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device Support

64-bit windows: C: Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device Support

You should no see a whole lot of files and folders...good! Now right click and create a new folder called 'bin' (yes no caps, just bin). Drag everything you see in the Mobile Device Support folder into the bin folder. You should now only have a 'bin' folder in Mobile Device Support folder. Good! This was done so quickpwn can work with the latest iTunes versions (9+).

    4. Run quickpwn. After opening quickpwn, you get a box on your computer screen saying something like 'your phone needs to be powered on, please hold the home button and sleepwake button for 15 seconds'. Just do what the box says says- EXACTLY. When you see the apple logo on your phone, close quickpwn.*

*****CLOSE QUICKPWN, IT IS NOT USED TO JAILBREAK.*****

    5. Your phone should now boot normally.

    6. This step is extremely important if you don't want to re-install iTunes! Remember that bin folder we made? yeah... iTunes wont work right until you undo what we did. So cut everything in the 'bin' folder you put in earlier, place everything back into the Mobile Device Support folder (where the bin folder is). After everything is back, DELETE the empty bin folder**. Itunes is not happy until the 'bin' gone too! You should now have everything back in the Mobile Device Support folder and there should be NO bin folder.

** You may need to open task manager [ctrl + alt + del] and end some/all Apple Processes to be able to delete the 'bin' folder. If you do end these processes, restart your computer after deleting the bin folder in order restart them (so your iphone will be able to sync with iTunes etc).

    THANKS archaeoman!

    7. You are now free to jailbreak.
Bro, thanks for the boost.. I was having a hard time trying to figure out after the 1015 error... Your guide really help me to restore back to 3.1.3 firmware, but I'm am kind of confused after number 4. I run quickpwn and and does everything it tell me to do and I got out of the bootloop and I click okay to continue. Then quickpwn tell me to select the firmware that my device is running. I select the ipsw file that I used with itunes earlier and it wouldn't accept it, so I just skip to number 6 and restore the files from the bin and delete the bin folder. Now itunes and everything seem to run normal, but I hope I completed the number 4. I just checked my info and see that it is currently running 3.1.3, but I don't remember that the firmware was 05.13.04, I remember it was 05.12.01.. Did I miss something?

    Default Stuck
    i have an iphone 3gs
    Bootloader 6.4
    baseband 5.13.04
    model: mb718
    serial # 88001gl33ns

i upgraded to 4.0 then downgraded back to 3.1.3 but i still can't get past the Emergency call screen. its like no matter what i do the iphone remains stuck at the emergency call screen and itunes says to activate the phone using the sim card i received with the phone. I even inserted an ATT sim card and waited for it to bypass activation but nothing happened. What can i do at this point? Is my Imei blocked or something? if so, how do i find out? thanks!

Is it impossible to generate a previous blob if you are on 4.0 already?

Holy **** on a stick this worked, you're a god damn genius.

I downgraded all day yesterday and got locked to recovery mode and couldn't get kicked out.

If i were you i'd add a step cos i was semi-confused for a minute. Before the copy files back step, add a step that says "your phone will be in 'connect to itunes mode' etc. because the way you put it, i wasn't completely clear.

Anyway, got an itunes error, so i copied the files back, opened itunes again, bingo 3.1.3

Hi Im trying to get my 3Gs 3.1.3 unlocked but Im not sure if its possible. How do I get cydia to "hash" the older firmware? Also how do I edit the host file? Im noticing that its been way harder to jailbreak 3gs than it was to jailbreak my 3g. thanks very much for any help.

I have a MAC. I've been scouring trying to find clear instructions to downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3 on my macbook. I DO have 3.1.3 SHSH blobs saved on file with Cydia. Is there a link or something im missing? THanks guys.

    Hi,

I downloaded the "iPhone2, 1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw" and opened with Shift+restore in iTunes 9.2. Certainly I made a big mistake and as a result the iphone went into "recovery mode loop. I've read several posts in various forums and not come to a reasonable conclusion. I have also tried everything that indicated: iRecovery, iBoot, power button, plug the cable, and something, nothing worked. To make matters worse, when you connect the iphone to itunes 9.2 this message appears: "The sim card inserted inserted on this iPhone Does Not Appear to Be supported"
I know this topic is not specifically on this subject, but the topic was more consistent that I found in the past week.
Using the umbrella, I found the following in my iPhone:
    Device: iPhone3GS 4.0 (8A293)
    Model: MB717LL / A
    Name: iPhone
    Baseband: 04:26:08 - 6.4_M3S2
    ECID - 965672765663
    I appreciate any help. Thanks

Forget about. I solved it in another forum.
To register the solution: Turn off the iPhone. Unplug the USB cable from the device. Press and hold the home button and plug the cable. Keep the home button pressed, the iPhone will start. Keep pressed the button until the iPhone comes into restore mode. The message "The sim card inserted inserted on this iPhone Does Not Appear to Be supported" disappears from iTunes, so the iTunes/iPhone will be ready for the new restore.
