Default Running 3.0... Want To Restore.. Is it ok?
    Hey fellas,

I'm running 3.0 on a 3GS and need to restore my phone. For whatever reason my SMS app won't open, it just crashes. I'm assuming I need to restore at this point and don't want to be screwed by it not allowing me to use 3.0 again.

If I go to iTunes and hit restore will it automatically download 3.1? I think i still have the 3.0 firmware file somewhere on my PC.

Do not upgrade to 3.1. It will lock your 3GS.

I'm also looking for a way to restore 3.0 but iTunes always wants to install 3.1.

unless your 3.0 ECID is stored with Cydia (or elsewhere), the is NO WAY to stay or restore with 3.0

    your only choice is 3.1

get your ECID's for 3.1 now before Apple stops signing those firmwares too.

i strongly reccommend against upgrading to 3.1 untill there is a Jailbreak for it released.

try a hard reset in the meantime. hold home and power to shut off and reboot.

zinjen, I would SSH into your phone, find the SMS app settings and data folders, [re]move the files to somewhere else and try to launch it again. At this point, I guess databases and configs will be regenerated automatically by the app.

I can't give you details or list of files right now because my 3GS is currently bricked.

Try deleting the contents of "/private/var/mobile/Library/SMS" on your iPhone, you will need to SSH into your iPhone to do this, or use MobileTerminal:

    Code:
    rm -rf /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/*
Hopefully that might fix it for you.
