Default Unactiviated iPhone 3GS -- how to tell what version?
So, I bought a used 3GS off of eBay. It's locked and not jailbroken. I want to unlock it. But I'd like to know before running redsn0w whether it has 3.0, 3.0.1, or 3.1 software. How can I tell? The only screens that come up are the 'Plug me into iTunes' and emergency call ones, which don't give any of this info.

    Thanks,
    -Hankk

Then there is no way to tell really, you have to get into the settings to see what OS it's on.

Back in early days, we were able to bypass the emergency dialpad. I'll do some searchings and will get back to you.

Not so sure if this will work, but give it a try.

1- Turn on your iphone, you will get "Slide for Emergency Call"
2- Slide and you will get the phone keypad
3- type *3001#12345#* and press CALL
    3- Press on VERSIONS

You can plug it into itunes still and the version will show on the iPhone page.
