Default What to do if needs restore?
    Hi, My scenario:

    iphone 3GS, 3.0
    Jailbroken with Purplera1n
    Unlocked with Purplesn0w
    ECID SHSH on file

What should I do in the event that I somehow in the near future need to "Restore" the phone via itunes?

I realised that it would be "automatically upgraded" to 3.1.
What should I do to so that I won't loose the unlock.

Many thanks for your advice. cheers!

wait until there is a jailbreak for 3.1 released.

until then, don't monkey around adding every app under the sun like i did. now ive been without a phone for 3 days.

try not to reboot your phone if possible either. i rebooted and its stuck on the apple screen.

If you were one of the people who clicked the "make my life easier" button in Cydia then you should be able to restore to 3.0. Of course you need to edit your "hosts" file to point to Sauriks server before you do it.

If you do need to restore back to 3.0, do what is said above.

Then shift click restore (xp) or command click restore (mac, i think), find fw 3.0 and restore.

then jailbreak w\ redsn0w and unlock with it ultra. (supposed to be better then purple i hear).

    Just wait til 3.1 JB

Thanks for all your replies. What is important to me is that my iphone remains unlocked.

Even if 3.1 JB for 3GS comes out, it would still be a no go for me till they come out with a programe to unlock 3.1

I am just concerned that due to some winterboard application and I needed to "Restore", I would be in trouble if I did that via Itunes forced to upgrade to 3.1.

I will use bondkt's method if I need to restore it due to any cause.

It would be fantastic if a JB for 3.1 and an unlock solution comes out for 3.1.

    Cheers!

Don't worry...if you have your ECID on file then you should be able to restore to 3.0 in iTunes after you change your host file to point to saurik's server

Just remember to cmd-click or shift click restore and choose the 3.0 firmware and you are good to go

Once Pwnage tool for 3.1 is out you can JB and upgrade to 3.1 without updating your baseband, which means you can have an unlocked iPhone running 3.1
