  • Kindle for iPad: Now Kid Friendly

If you are among the parents fortunate enough to discover the wonders of iDevices at keeping your kids content and quiet on long car rides, the folks at Amazon must have had you in mind with their latest Kindle App update for iOS (and Android).

On Thursday, Amazon pushed out an update that delivers support for a wide assortment of children's books, comic books and even graphic novels for the older readers who enjoy the tablet platform for soaking up a good aesthetically creative literary work.

According to Amazon, the Kindle Cloud Reader is also included on the update.

Read children’s books, comic books, and graphic novels with beautiful layout and full color. Over 1000 children’s titles are available including Brown Bear and Curious George and comics such as Batman and Superman.
"Children's books come to life with brilliant images, fixed layouts, and Kindle Text Pop-Up for supported titles to magnify text for easy reading on any size screen," Amazon boasts. The free update (19.9 megabytes) is now available through the App Store (or click here for the iTunes link) and requires iOS 4.2 or later.

The Kindle for iPad/iPhone application lets users download and read any Kindle book directly on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch device. The application also uses wireless syncing technology to recall the last page you read so you can keep your place in a book across all platforms. Download the Kindle for iPad/iPhone application from the Apple App Store to download all your Kindle books to an Apple device. As of March 2011, the application is free.

Why would people use Kindle for iPad instead of iBooks if they don't already own an iPad?
