  • Apple Seeds iOS 4.3 Beta 2 to Developers

Apple seeded the second beta of iOS 4.3 to Developers Wednesday afternoon. The update from the first beta, seeded a week ago, brings bug fixes along with at least one puzzling omission. The new build of iOS 4.3 carries the build number 9F5135D.

The most notable portion of the new beta is that the much-hyped multi-touch gestures for the iPad (that had the rumor mill buzzing with reports that the new iPad may not even have a home button) will not be available for customers. Apple noted to developers in the release:

"This feature will not be enabled in iOS 4.3 for customers, but we are providing this preview to gather input on how these gestures work with your apps."
Well then, Apple has essentially said 'hold your horses' to the home button-less iPad rumors. It is not clear when Apple plans to actually implement the multi-touch gestures for customers. Maybe we'll see it released when the company debuts iOS 5, presumably some time this spring. Nothing else seems noticeably different in the beta, however, MacStories noted that everything seems "snappier" in the new beta.

The iOS 4.3 beta is available to developers now, and it is available for the iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPod touch 4th and 3rd generation, the iPad, and the Apple TV 2nd generation.
