  • It's Official: Apple Warns of Legal Action Over Jobs Action Figure

As MMi's Phillip Swanson reported Monday, a 12 Steve Jobs action figure from toy company "In Icons" is set to be released in February for $99.

Unfortunately, there's now a chance that we'll never know if the action figure had the potential of becoming the next G.I. Joe. Because if "In Icons" proceeds to sell the toy next month, they may need G.I. Joe to rescue them from the legal war Apple is reportedly threatening.

As the U.K. Telegraph reveals today, Apple sent a letter to the Asian toy manufacturer asserting that their product obviously resembles an Apple likeness (meaning Steve Jobs) that belongs to the Cupertino, California-based tech giant.

    Who didn't see this coming?

As some will recall, Apple succeeded at blocking the sale of other Steve Jobs-related products in the past, including a similar action figure released in 2010 by MiC Gadget.

Here's my question: if so many people want the Steve Jobs action figure but Apple won't let anyone produce it, why doesn't Apple just launch a new division and release an entire set of sanctioned Apple action figures and toys?

The revenue potential alone for "Tickle Me Woz" could easily eclipse iPhone sales.

Shouldn't Steve Jobs' estate be the one going after this?

^ That was probably not the brightest move... how could one think this would actually just skate by Apple Legal without a hitch?

haha is there anything else apple would like to sue about, isnt that like the 3rd article in a month (30 days) that they sued someone for, cuz they obviously need the money....

I would pay SERIOUS money for a "Tickle Me Woz". Apple really should offer Apple memorabilia items such as toys, actions figures, shirts, etc. The market for that is huge, they just need to make it happen.

Umm, I don't think Apple has any legitimate claim here. Steve Job's estate would, but not Apple. Honestly, Apple doesn't own the rights to Steve Jobs.

If someone wanted to make an action figure based on you, the company that you work for can't say that they can't because you belong to them.

The figure would be epic to have (especially if recalled later) but this just proves how much apple really sucks. If they have to sue everyone for stupid reasons like this then they obviously are going broke.

Man, boo-flippin-hoo. Who are they going to sue next, my dog who is dying of cancer? I lose more and more respect for Apple every day.

How could any moron think that figure would be acceptable? How can any idiot fault apple or jobs for suing the pants of these guys?

Maybe they Trademarked/Copyrighted/Patented his image/likeness. Maybe Steve had it done as insurance if he departed (RIP). Who are you to say that they don't own his image? Just Saying.

Why do you have to be a weirdo? What about people that own Elvis and Michael Jackson figures or Princess Diana, etc. Iconic figures man!! If they end up producing them, my SJ "action Figure" will be sitting atop my desk watching me work all day.
