  • iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 2 Seeded To Devs - Reveals iTunes Match For Apple TV

Earlier today, iOS 5.0.1 was seeded to developers, with improvements for the iPhone 4S battery, the iPad 2 security flaw, and multitasking gestures for the original iPad. Apple seems to be pushing further with the release of iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 2 to developers this evening.

According to Apple’s email, iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2 includes some stability and performance improvements along with iTunes Match being made available for the Apple TV. Below is what the email said regarding iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2:

In order to subscribe to iTunes Match, or continue using your existing subscription, please upgrade to iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2. Once upgraded, turn on iTunes Match on each computer, iOS device or Apple TV you own. In iTunes on your computer , choose Store > Turn on iTunes Match. On your iOS device, tap Settings > Music, then turn on iTunes Match. On your Apple TV, choose Music > Turn on iTunes Match.
For those of you who have developer accounts and therefore access to the Developer Center, if you happen to try out iTunes Match with your Apple TV, let us know how it goes! As far as iTunes Match availability for the public, it seems quite obvious that Apple has missed their deadline and is in the process of further testing the service before releasing it to the masses. There isn’t any information as to when it will actually be released but you’ll find out as soon as we do!

Well I updated to beta 2 and attempted to turn on iTunes Match, no go. A message popped up and said I can have no more than 25,000 songs that were not purchased from the iTunes store. I have 25,798 songs, and a lot of them were purchased through the store, so they aren't even allowing the first 25,000 songs of your library to be uploaded.

Because version numbers have a specific meaning. Itunes 11 would require there to be some major changes or a code overhaul.
