  • Apple to Include Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter With iPhone 7
Apple to Include Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter With iPhone 7, Not Lightning EarPods?

Typically Deutsche Bank is a very reliable source and reports that Apple is reportedly planning to include a Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter with the iPhone 7 rather than releasing a new pair of Lightning EarPods. This has been a rumor going around for some time now.

Deutsche Bank analysts reveal what they are expecting from the iPhone 7 based on supply chain checks.

Here's a look at what they are anticipating for the release of the iPhone 7:

    ● A “Plus” model with a dual-camera for better zoom and 3GB of RAM
    ● A standard model with an improved camera and optical image stabilization
    ● Better sound, possibly stereo sound
    ● Professional class waterproofing
    ● A home button that uses motors to simulate a click, which should last longer than the current home button
    ● A new color (possibly Space Black), so there’s a version that looks different than current iPhones
    ● The elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack, as it has been discussed for some time now. Headphones will instead plug in through Apple’s lightning charging port
    ● Deutsche Bank expects Apple to include a Lightning-to-audio dongle with the iPhone 7, not a pair of Lightning headphones

With this new Adapter many (including myself) are wondering about listening to your device with the headphones and being able to charge also. Will many be forced to put out big money for quality Bluetooth headphones?

So I can't charge and listen to music at the same time? That's gonna suck.

If I upgrade at all it would be 6s but I'm happy with 6, So far iphone 7 is very underwhelming,

      Not waterproof
      Not oled

Still useless if you ask me.. you can't charge your device and listen to music... and what if you have a battery case? most of those just have mini-usb ...

It is careless of apple to just drop an industry standard

Eh, not being able to listen and charge at the same time is a downgrade of functionality. Not to mention that's one more thing I'll have to carry around. [emoji107]🏽

Why does the phone need to be thinner? Seems to be inviting more problems. Perhaps they are going to use a harder metal. Do harder metals make phone signals weaker?

Hopefully it will include the latest Bluetooth capabilities as that would at least enable us to use Bluetooth headphones for full lossless audio quality without relying on aptX.

There may be hope, these are all rumors, so may in fact be true because we have heard the same reports from a lot of sources. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
I have Apple Car Play in my vehicles so that's not an issue, but sitting at my desk I typically have it charging as I use my phone so much during the day for business and music.
I may have to just use iTunes on my iMac to listen to my music instead on my phone. Not a game changer for me but I will miss the 3.5mm jack.

So, basically, all rumors and no one has any damn clue wtf they're talking about as expected. I expect this kind of crap with misleading titles on sites like Forbes, Yahoo, etc. but didn't here...what a shame.

One thing I'm hoping for is 'Dark Mode' besides the possibility of a 'Space Black' version of the iPhone.

Yes, we should dump all the old standards just because they're old.

How about changing wall plug and light bulb sockets and voltages worldwide. Every country is different, so let's throw them all out and start over.

We should invent all new measuring systems. Even metric has been around far too long. In addition to weights a distances, we should invent new electrical measurements--volts and ohms and amps are all far too old. The same with hours, minutes and seconds. Why 24 hours in a day? Why 7 days in a week? It's time for change.

Speaking of measurements, light-years definitely need to go. Why base light's speed on Earth 's rotation around our sun? That is so arbitrary and provincial.

Out with the old—in with the new!

Odd that you've been around since 2007 and you don't realize that we go through this rumor mill every year.

I know BT 5.0 protocol was approved but doubt it could be included by Sept. probably next year.

So now Apple should follow everyone else?

I bet your one of the first to complain that Apple doesn't innovate too.

Just remember, it's all just rumor and speculation until Apple announces the new iPhone. Take all this with a big grain of salt.

You folks need to stop calling the missing port a headphone jack, it's a headset jack which is a port that also allows for input and not just output. As a content creator this means the loss of connecting something like a Rode SmartLav+ directly to the iPhone or any other mic using a TRRS adapter.

Using BT headphones with a mic plugged into the adapter probably won't work as the BT headset will override for mic control. Also most of us turn the radios off when using an iPhone as a recording device as the radios can cause RF noise.

Even if they put a Lightning to headset adapter in the box it means the loss of the power input. Currently if I want to shoot video, connected to power with an external mic I can do it with both a Lightning-USB cable and Headset-Mic. Can't do that if there's only one port. Though I could see Apple offering some $50 adapter that has both Lightning and Headset Ports on it for a rip-off price.

Playing Pokémon Go with EarPods and an external power adapter? Can't do it if they remove the headset jack.

Also a big FU to Square card readers that can plug straight into the headset port.

Once again Apple screws content creators as they save money to milk consumers.

Wow great points. As a consumer never thought about the Square card readers.

"progress" with unintended consequences, not good.

Square is moving towards more secure contactless payment (NFC).
