  • Apple Suppliers Start Hiring Early for iPhone 7 Due to Complex Design

Economic Daily News reports that Foxconn, Pegatron and other Apple suppliers in Taiwan have increased their hiring efforts to prepare for the mass manufacturing of upcoming iPhone 7. The companies are looking for “ordinary workers” who will likely work in the assembly lines to build and assemble the iPhone and its various components.

The report notes that the major Apple suppliers usually start their hiring season sometime in June, and this is the first time that they have started recruiting workers as early as in May. Apple usually launches a new iPhone in September and reports point to a similar launch timeframe for the handset this year. The report claims that the iPhone 7 has a more complex design than previous iPhone, which is why suppliers have started work early on assembling various parts of the phone.

A separate report from DigiTimes claims that Pegatron and Foxconn’s Hon Hai Precision Industry are tasked with assembling the 4.7-inch iPhone 7, while the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 will be assembled by Wistron and Foxconn. Apple has been diversifying its supply chain since the last few years to reduce any disruption in supplies due to any issues.

Another report from earlier today suggested that Intel will be supplying Apple with up to 50% of the LTE modem for the iPhone 7. This will be the first time in more than 3 years that Apple will be using a non-Qualcomm modem inside the iPhone.

Before long they'll be assembled by robots, and those ordinary Chinese workers will find out what it's like to have their own jobs outsourced.

I hope they do a better job at assembling an iPhone than a McDonald's worker does with burgers for $15/hr

Well they'll be the ones assembling the robots anyway so their job should be safe.

So you figure there will be as many people building robots as there currently are building iPhones?

Absolutely not. I expect a lot more.
