  • ‘iPhone 7’ Leak Supposedly Surfaces; Showcases Flush Camera, Missing Antenna Band

Today, images surfaced of a supposed leak of the "iPhone 7", according to an anonymous tipster says that the image above showcases an iPhone 7 dummy unit.

Of course, with sketchy sources this could easily be fake, it does however do a good job of rounding up rumors and putting together a believable enough unit.

The dummy unit looks similar to the existing iPhone 6s, but with some differences. Unlike the iPhone 6/6s, the antenna bands on the iPhone 7 will supposedly be at the top and bottom edge of the handset, and slightly extend to the edges. Another change is what looks like a flush rear camera housing where the iPhone 6/6s both feature a rear camera housing that protrudes slightly from the back casing, something that’s a bit of a mixed bag of results for iPhone owners.

It has been previously reported that Apple’s iPhone 7 would feature a flush camera, and this dummy unit would seem to confirm those rumors if it’s the real deal. And, as expected, this iPhone 7 dummy unit does not feature a dual-camera system on the back, as that feature is expected to be exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Finally, the dummy unit does appear to show that the iPhone 7 will feature a Smart Connector near the bottom of the handset. This could be used to transfer data and power accessories attached to the iPhone 7, like cases, and could even be a solution for wireless charging. However, a recent report recently suggested Apple has ditched the Smart Connector feature for the iPhone 7/7 Plus, and could be waiting until the iPhone 8 to launch that particular feature — or ditch it altogether.

It isn’t easy to see, as the angle of the picture doesn’t really offer a clear look, but it does appear that the dummy unit isn’t outfitted with a 3.5mm headphone jack, but instead only boasts the Lightning connector along the bottom edge. As it stands, the rumor that the iPhone 7 won’t feature a 3.5mm headphone jack has been rampant. However, more recently, a leaked part suggested the 3.5mm headphone jack could still make the cut for the iPhone 7.

Earlier today, another report surfaced that indicated the iPhone 7 will have similar dimensions when compared to the iPhone 6s. That certainly doesn’t confirm that this dummy unit is the real thing, but these rumors all seem to be leaning towards Apple making only minor changes and updates to the company’s next flagship handsets. That will obviously have mixed results for potential buyers.

As it stands, the iPhone 7 is also rumored to feature a waterproof design, a possible touch-sensitive Home button, and potentially a slightly larger battery.

I'm on an iPhone 6, so I'll be upgrading this fall to the 7 Plus. I am hoping for a better camera with a wider aperture if we don't get dual cameras. Better battery life too.

Not sure I'm sold on that look of that's what it ends up being. Looks a lot like an iPod back. Still think design wise the 5s is a sexier phone than the 6/6s.

Any room for a 3.5mm audio jack?

Why is there a QR code on it?

Could the 3 circles at the bottom mean wireless charging contacts?

I personally believe that this is fake.

Next year is the iPhone's 10 year anniversary. Big things will be planned, which makes this year another "s" year.

Of course, all these are still rumors but if this year looks anything like leaks, then yeah 2017 will be the year to actually get a new iPhone and not minor upgrades.

I feel like this could be a convincing fake...

Apple is known for having sharp edges, so the bands just don't look right

Also, this looks like the exact same thing as the last 'leak' that had the larger camera aperture... So, maybe these were made side by side, just one with the 'now' camera and one with the 'leaked' camera?

It's not the first time we have seen this design. It's similar to the smart connector found on the iPad Pro for the keyboard magnet. I say it's possible for apple to implement it as they tend to show off their major "feature of the year" early on some product other than than the iPhone

Agree - the 5series was way easier to care for. My wife still has her 5s which was a day one purchase - no case, no skin. And still looks great.

Not sure I've noticed that. My 5s got scratches on the back from I don't know what (never did anything irresponsible), but my 6s Plus still looks flawless. No cases on either of them.

Yeah, my 6+ and 6s+ looked/look great as well. I'm just more concerned about scratching the 6series for some reason and have always had a skin in them.

I always had a Tech 21 case on my 6 Plus and it seemed to get little bits of gunk stuck to the phone along the pattern on the inside of the case, as well as leave some permanent marks. I guess it's probably just a poorly designed case but it's what made me decide to go caseless again.

I am surprised that the Apple logo isn't especially susceptible to scratches with it being stainless steel though.

I think this is the first time I'm not really that excited about upgrading. I'll be able to upgrade to the 7, but I have no issues at all with my 6 Plus and it's still plenty fast and in 9.9/10 condition. Unless the 7 gets a major appearance change, I think I'll hold off for awhile.

I'm not overly excited, but I do want to upgrade from my 6. My GPS has been acting up, takes a long time to acquire a signal. I'm thinking about taking it to the Apple store, will probably have to remove all my tweaks and remove the jailbreak to get it serviced. It is out of warranty, so I fear  will give me a replacement iPhone with an unjailbreakable IPSW.

Has anyone gotten an iPhone serviced at the  Store that was jailbroken AND out of warranty?

I think it would be funny if all these rumors about no headphone jack was because Apple is moving the jack back to the top like it was before the iPhone 5 came out.

Yes. I had the camera replaced under the recall program. I told them not to restore as I haven't backed up. Guy was very excited about the keyboard. I have exKey. I told him it's a keyboard app.

I remember when I went in and had springtomize, Zeppelin, and a few other UI tweaks when I had to have my 5S checked. The tech called over one of his coworkers to show it off. I love going in every now and then with a jail broken device

I did some research, looks like a gps fix is done by replacing the logic board. I'm assuming they'll replace my phone with a "new" one or refurbished. I'm afraid the replacement will come with a firmware I cannot jailbreak. I'm gonna make an appointment and i'll talk to a Genius and ask them if they have replacements with iOS 9.1 or 9.0.2 before I go with the "repair".

If not, I'm gonna have to suck it up till the next jailbreak or till the new iPhone comes out, hopefully that gets jailbroken sooner than later.
