  • Apple loses exclusive rights to 'iPhone' trademark for non-smartphone products in China
Apple Inc. has now lost exclusive rights to the 'iPhone' trademark for non-smartphone products in China and have to now share it with a Chinese product maker Xintong Tiandi Technology which makes leather products.

The Beijing Municipal High People's Court has now rejected Apple's appeal of the earlier ruling which Xintong Tiandi is already selling many "IPHONE" products which has purses, phone cases and passport cases.

The Chinese product maker Xintong Tiandi Technology have had the trademark since 2007. which is the same year as Apple launched in the USA. 5 years later Apple registered the "iPhone" name in China for computer products which has been around since a 2012 compliance to the country's trademark authorities.

The Chinese government ruled that Apple didn't prove the name "IPHONE" which had already been known prior to the registration on behalf of the case makers company. The High People's Court stated that Apple didn't sell the iPhone in mainland China until 2009.

Battling it out between Apple and China, Two of Apple's online storefronts iTunes Movies and the iBooks Store were shut down in China, reportedly by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. No reason was indicated, but the Chinese internet is regularly subject to censorship and other restrictions. The Chinese revenues were also down year-over-year in the March quarter.
