  • Foxconn Now Developing OLED Displays, rumors Surface again about iPhone 7 display
Apple is rumored to be working on making an iPhone with an OLED display continue, reports suggest that it could happen as early as 2017.

A new report from DigiTimes Research suggests that Foxconn, after its substantial investment in manufacturer Sharp, will begin developing AMOLED displays in the future.

“Sharp will set up one 4.5G and two 6G AMOLED production lines with monthly capacity of 13,000, 11,500 and 34,500 glass substrates respectively, with total monthly capacity of 9.85 million 5.5-inch equivalent panels.”
Foxconn is a general mass production company, so these steps are also likely positioning the company to supply displays for other companies, too.

Apple’s rumored OLED plans ramped up recently when analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointed to a future where Apple releases an iPhone with a 5.8-inch curved OLED display, which could see the light of day as early as 2017, but could be more likely to arrive in 2018. That same report also indicated that the 4.7-inch iPhone would remain LCD, while the larger 5.8-inch variant would use the OLED technology.
