  • Apple to use paper bags instead of plastic bags in Apple Stores

Apple is pushing it's stores further to go more green, Apple is reportedly planning to phase out its familiar plastic shopping bags in mid-April, with the drawstring design to be replaced by environmentally friendly paper bags made out of recycled materials.

On Monday, Apple has informed many retail employees of the upcoming policy shift in an email, noting the change will be made effective on April 15. This letter shown below was supposedly sent out by Ricialg Panlaqui who, according to her LinkedIn profile, works as a visual marketing project manager at Apple.

We're committed to leaving the world better than we found it. One bag at a time. So on April 15, we'll switch to paper shopping bags made from 80 percent recycled materials. These bags come in medium and large.

When customers are buying a product, ask if they need a bag. They may decide they don't. And you'll encourage them to be even more environmentally friendly.

If you still have plastic bags in stock, use them before you switch to the new paper bags.
Apple has a massive impact on the environment currently, from using renewable and safe materials in manufacturing to designing minimalist, eco-friendly packaging for its various device lineups. Considering the sheer number of products purchased at the average Apple Store, the current shopping bags, while beneficial to brand awareness, likely require huge amounts of plastic to produce. A greener alternative was introduced with the custom Apple Watch totes introduced last year.

Surely they would achieve more if they get rid of some of them nasty toxic chemicals inside the phone than a few bio-degradable bags?

Also to replace them useless thick protection plan and manuals with online ones. I haven't bought any apple products for a while so they might have already done that.

For a few years now, plastic shopping bags have been banned here on the island of Hawaii and on Maui as well... You can see the difference not blowing in the wind, less detriment to the marine life around us too... May seem like a minor thing for Apple to do but it's a really good thing...

Can you inform me of which toxic chemicals are in the phone?

When I got my Apple Watch Sport, I couldn't believe the monstrous plastic packaging it came in.

I had expected it to come in a conservatively sized cardboard box similar to what other watches are sold in, but no!

So for now, I'm not convinced Apple really wants to save the environment.

Because an Apple Watch box should make or break your opinion on whether or not they want to save the environment
