  • Apple's 2016 Event Re-Capped

There were rumors that today's announcement would bring an update to Apple Music and iTunes, though neither appeared. Here's a list of what was announced:

    Apple Watch

-- Has "become top-selling smartwatch in the world."

-- New band option, woven nylon, made available

-- A price drop for the relatively mild-selling device, which now starts at $299

    Apple TV

-- "Apps are the future of television," Cook said, pointing to the existence of 5,000 apps on the their TV's App Store.

-- Siri and dictation, making "typing" on the device much easier for users.

    iPhone

-- Introduced a "new member of the Apple family," the 4-inch iPhone SE, which has an identical form factor as the iPhone 5S, but double the speed of that 2.5 years-old device.

    -- Starts at $399.

    iOS

-- Company claims "80 percent" of active iOS devices use newest version of the company's software, compared with Android's two percent.

-- iOS version 9.3, being released today, characterized as one of the "biggest 'dot' releases" the company has done.

-- New version updates with "Night Shift," which adjusts the blue light on devices as the sun goes down, easing sleep for some users.

    -- Passcode protection of Notes.

-- Updates to the News app, which seems to be making itself friendlier to publishers and allows readers to "track" stories.

    iPad

-- Introduced an "entirely new iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch retina display. It weighs less than one pound."

-- 32GB version starts at $599, with capacity up to 256GB.

-- New product also causes the iPad Air 2 price to drop, now starts at $399.

Thank you to everybody who joined us on our LIVE BLOG! Appreciate it lots.

I feel that since Jobs passing Apple is not really innovating. All of today's releases look like current stuff is being repackaged and resold. Made a step better? Maybe for some, yes. But overall very disappointing. Another iPad, another iPhone 5, another ipager band option, night shift, passcode protection etc. where is the excitement, where are the new products? Most of us used to run to the store to buy Jobs products, to enjoy, to put the smiles on our faces. I doubt that most will run anywhere for any of these. In my opinion they used up all of Steve Jobs ideas and now it's a struggle. First time in a long time Apple stock dropped after the event and experienced an overall downgrade. Just my two cents. What do you guys think?

Ps: Tim Cook looks like a Lesbian in that picture.

I understand totally where you're coming from. However, understand that it isn't the WWDC event which will be held near the end of the year. Just a refreshment on some of the devices which happens from time to time.

Well the 9.7” iPad Pro was not that iPad I was looking for at the event. I was hoping for an iPad Air 2 update and ready to spend money on that. My wife and I have been hanging on to our iPad 3’s and even though they still get the job done pretty well, I’m ready for an update.

Thankfully they dropped the price of the iPad Air 2 significantly. With the $100 price drop and the additional $80 savings from buying a refurb model, I pulled the trigger on getting two Air 2’s pretty cheap. They may be getting a little older, but since we seem to be ok with our 4 year old iPad 3’s, the Air 2 should keep us going for a good long while to come.

I think Apple is going the wrong way with the Pro models. If they want to make a laptop replacement, they need to make a true Surface Pro competitor and put OSX in a tablet form factor. I do think the Pro can be a good laptop replacement for a lot of people as most mainstream applications once only on OSX/Windows now has a god iOS counterpart, but I don’t think people are mentally willing to take that leap.

Hopefully they make the right choice with Apple Watch and put GPS in it. People spend several hundred dollars on GPS fitness watches. If Apple could make their watch formidable competitor to those dedicated-use watches, they would sell truckloads, and I would be first to line up.

It was an iPad Air 2 update. Same specs with a different name.
