  • Apple releases watchOS 2.2 for pairing multiple Apple Watches to one iPhone

Users interested in adopting multiple styles of Apple Watch will appreciate Apple's new watchOS 2.2 update, which adds the ability to pair multiple Apple Watches with a single iPhone, along with other tweaks and improvements.

watchOS 2.2 is now available to install via the official Apple Watch app on an iPhone. As with all updates, users must ensure their iPhone is in range of the Watch, that the Watch is connected to its charge, and charged to at least 50 percent capacity.

After installing the update, along with iOS 9.3 on an iPhone, suers will be able to pair multiple Apple Watches with a single iPhone. That's possible thanks to a new feature called Auto Switch, which automatically connects to any paired Apple Watch, once the user puts it on and raises their wrist.

Apple also includes an image of the user's Apple Watch, complete with their style, color, and even the watch face and complications they have enabled. This will make it easier for users to distinguish between their connected watches.

The ability to pair multiple watches with a single iPhone will allow Apple Watch owners to purchase multiple styles and swap them out as needed. For example, fashion-conscious consumers might own different styles and colors to fit their current attire or activity.

watchOS 2.2 also includes improvements to Apple's Maps app. The Maps Glance for Apple Watch has been reimagined, providing users with quick links to directions to their home, work, nearby locations, and more.

Do I have to be upgraded to 9.3 before my watch can update?

No new apple watch, that's what I was holding off to find out.

Definitely was a bit disappointed that there was no new watch since that's what I was holding out for. While the $299 price is tempting for a sports version I'll just wait it out another year and see what happens. I was really hoping Apple would have made some major break though and be able to push battery life up to 2-3 days with the 2nd gen. Hopefully next year!

I'm thinking yes. I'm on 9.0.x and my watch shows as being up to date on 2.1.

I was the same way last year. I wanted to wait and get Apple Watch v2 because I couldn't wait to see if they incorporate LTE and wifi so it's more independent among other rumors. And I have to tell ya, my wife for me one for my birthday and I could be happier! Nor can I imagine my life without one.

I was concerned about the battery life like you but I had to take my son to the ER and had to sleep over night. Well I had a phone charger but not the watch charger. Needless to say I pulled the watch off the charger at 0700 on Monday and after I was relieved by my wife at 0600 on Tuesday to take the next shift for my son, I was presently surprised my watch was at 31%. So I think the battery is fine. If it gets better awesome. But don't let that be a reason not to get one.

Appreciate you sharing this... It's has definitely changed my mind on purchasing one. Since I'm gonna order the new 9.7 iPad on Thursday I'll also get an entry level sports watch and see how it goes. If I don't like I can always return it, sell it to a friend or on Craigslist. The batter life has always been my major concern but you've changed my mind to give it a shot. Thanks again!

      Simple question please:
If I have an iPhone 6+ jailbreak on 9.3.3,
Can I pair a brand new Apple Watch which I just bought ?
