  • Pangu releases a jailbreak for iOS 9.1

Today, the Pangu hacking team has released an update to its jailbreak tool for devices running iOS 9.1. The tool, which is surprisingly already available for both Mac and Windows, allows users to jailbreak the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

A few people will be able to take advantage of this jailbreak that havenít already. Why? Apple stopped signing iOS 9.1 back in late December, which means that anyone not currently running iOS 9.1 can no longer downgrade or upgrade to that particular version of iOS. Since many of those who are not jailbroken have since upgraded to newer versions of iOS, and those that are jailbroken are still running earlier version of iOS, it limits the scope of potential users.

Pangu acknowledges that the kernel bug used for the 9.1 release was patched by Apple in iOS 9.2. In other words, it had nothing to lose by releasing the 1.3 update, and it gave the few users who might still be running iOS 9.1 an opportunity to enjoy a jailbreak.

On its site, Pangu gave special thanks to Jung Hoon Lee, nicknamed Lokihardt, a South Korean security expert whoís well-known in hacking circles. Lee previously won a large bounty in the 2015 Pwn2Own hacking competition. Pwn2Own is where contestants are challenged to exploit mobile devices and software using new vulnerabilities.

You can download the Pangu 1.3 tool for iOS 9.1 from Panguís official website. The tool only works for iOS 9.1 on 64-bit iOS devices. Earlier iOS 9 versions can be jailbroken on 32-bit devices using the same tool.

UPDATE: Many users running the 1.3 Pangu Update to Jailbreak their device on 9.1 are having issues so please back your device up and do it at your own risk.

What do you think about Pangu releasing the 9.1 Jailbreak?

What's the story with TaiG9.mobi? Claims it does the jailbreak of iOS 9.2.1 via a website that provides apps that when installed, gives you Cydia.

      To amend my priviest excitement.
The Windows version of the Pangu app put my Iphone 6S into a boot logo loop.
I was forced to update to latest apple firmware to get my phone to work again.
Maybe I did something wrong, but it seemed rather straightforward and everything went fine during the jailbreak process.
It ended saying I was 100% jailbroken.
I reboot the phone, and it got stuck in the boot loop I can't recover from.
Just in case anyone else has experienced this.
      Kinda lame.

This is exactly why ppl should just release the jaikbreak as soon as it's discovered. This jb obly supports an extent minuscule audience.

This is why I stayed on 9.1, just in case a JB came out for it! It's funny cause I was really considering updating to the latest iOS just to get rid of the annoying Software Install reminders. Now I'm glad that I didn't!

Edit: For those who do JB on 9.1 and you have the boot loop problem, try waiting 10 mintues to see if it fixes itself or restart in safe mode and see if that works. I had to boot in safe mode by holding the volume up key for awhile but it finally loaded everything up normally. If you haven't JB yet I would suggest waiting until Pangu patches/updates the application!

I did the same thing. After it boots everything seems fine but it will always happen if a reboot occurs. Also I have found that nothing works on Cydia. As in whatever I install never shows up. Do u have the same problem?

You should've waited it out. Mine kept rebooting with the apple logo but it eventually completely booted.

The question is, is Cydia working for you? Can you install things?
