  • Plot to stop Trump, Tim Cook attends secret meeting w/ Tech CEO's and Republicans

Apple CEO Tim Cook attends secret meeting with tech and government elite to plot end to Trump presidential run, report says.

Technology industry leaders including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google co-founder Larry Page and Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk met with top GOP representatives at the secretive American Enterprise Institute's annual World Forum this past weekend to discuss how to halt Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, a report said Monday.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, elite U.S. figures representing a swath of corporate, private and political interests attended the conference hosted at the Sea Island resort off the coast of Georgia, an event closed to the public and media, The Huffington Post reports. While other issues were discussed, the main talking point was Trump's bid for the White House.

The supposed guest list reads as a who's who of tech and government. Along with Cook, Page, Musk and Napster creator Sean Parker, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was reportedly on site with House Speaker Paul Ryan, a gaggle of Republican senators and at least one democrat in Maryland Rep. John Delaney. Prominent policy analyst Karl Rove, Deputy Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush, was also present.

The private sector was represented by billionaire Philip Anschutz and The New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, among others.

"A specter was haunting the World Forum—the specter of Donald Trump," political commentator Bill Kristol wrote in an email from the conference, referencing Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto. "There was much unhappiness about his emergence, a good deal of talk, some of it insightful and thoughtful, about why he's done so well, and many expressions of hope that he would be defeated."

Trump infamously called called for a boycott on Apple products in February, a response to the company's resistance against helping FBI agents unlock an iPhone linked to last year's San Bernardino massacre.

The broader encryption debate was also a topic on discussion at the secretive confab, as the report claims Cook sparred with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who serves on the Senate Committee on Armed Services and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

"Cotton was pretty harsh on Cook," a source said. "Everyone was a little uncomfortable about how hostile Cotton was."

What a bunch of underhanded, low life corporate, rich boys and politicians. Let the cards be where they fall. Look out for Karma!

No wonder Washington is all messed up. Being run by the lobbyist and big greedy Corps.
They must be worried about something with Trump.

Have nothing against rich boys but why don't you they do something right for humanity for a change.
This has to be the the worse underhanded thing I have read in a long time.

I am neither for or against Trump. But this is showing me that a few corporate leaders can be a greater influence than millions of Americans' votes. That's not right and not the democratic way. My vote should cast equal weight to that of Cook, Page, Musk, Zuckerberg, etc. It's plain wrong. Why should I vote if they make it meaningless?

I think the whole world has something to be worried about when it comes to someone who has zero experience in politics and who's net worth is negative $600 million dollars.

lol the republicans were starting to fall apart before trump came along. But he's certainly destroying what's left of it. If he becomes the republican nominee the damage done might not be salvageable. It's going to be entertaining to see this play out. I don't think Trump has any chance at a presidency though. He doesn't have party unification which will hurt him.

How secret is this "secret" meeting if we ALL know about it? Stupid. Plus I don't think Tim Cook is a Republican.

Actually both parties have major unification problems.. The Lefties are pulling further left.. and the Righties are , well, pulling themselves apart from moderate to far right.. We have 'serious' candidate for president this year who is a card-carrying socialist.. (never in American history).. and the front-runner for the Repubs is a.. well... interesting man... but.... oy..... And the front-runner on the left will likely not even be able to run because she'll be under indictment.. Both front-runners crooks??.. LOOOL.. What a wild ride this political year is...

That's a shame, he'll probably be the most patriotic president the USA has ever had. Wish we had such a candidate in the UK instead of those who just want to spend too much of our taxes on migrants! All countries need immigration to succeed, but you need to choose those who will respect your country and become part of its wealth. In the UK we take in too many foreign spongers, who don't give a dam about our country and send their money home.

You are talking politics and moving away from the subject matter.

I think not, stay on topic and refrain from politics in taking sides. Adhere to what they are underhandedly doing which can go both ways.

So you're suggesting I be like you and adopt tunnel vision?

Try looking at the big picture.

I always read posts very thoroughly before responding. My original comment to you still stands. You clearly are not understanding the broad topic at hand.

I don't think you realize the amount of damage that has been done by trump. The party leaders are telling voters "Anyone but trump" and are threatening to run another 3rd party candidate out. Which will assure a democrat in office. Lol that's how little they think of him that they'd rather see a democrat in office.

The Republican Party is becoming the party of trump, trumpublicans if you will. But it's their own fault. They created the monster with their tired old rhetoric. All trump did was erase the PC lines that were usually never crossed and while that gains him die hard support from the far right, it is slowly chasing away any moderates that are still with the party as the picture becomes clearer to them that they do not want to support the GOP, or at least not trump.

We might be in the middle of a major political shift or a formation of another major party.
