  • IDC: Wearables Market to be Dominated by Apple Watch Through 2019

Apple’s wearable device has been doing well to say the least, even though the company never gave official sales numbers since its launch. However, market research firm IDC recently predicted that Apple Watch sales will continue to grow and dominate the smartwatch market through 2019. According to IDC, the wearable device is estimated at 13 million units sold this year and they are projecting that in the next 4 years, it will hike to 45.2 million sold units.

Smartwatch shipments alone are expected to increase from 21.3 million to 88.3 million in the next few years. As for the Android Wear, which comes in behind Apple, is expected to go from 3.2 million in 2015 to 34.3 million by 2019. If that is the case, it will mark a 38.8% growth. It was noted that the growth in Android Wear units will affect Apple’s total market share, which is definitely true.

Currently, the smartwatch market doesn’t seem to be very popular but as technology advances every year, it is expected that the smartwatch market will grow and become quite popular in the upcoming years. The report noted that by 2019, the wearables market is expected to hit 214.6 million sold units, which includes glasses, smartwatches, and fitness trackers.
