  • CarPlay Credited With Boosting GM Sales

Apple's CarPlay offering may be more than just a convenient resource for iOS users when they step into their vehicle. It may also be a selling feature for the vehicles in question.

That's the takeaway from a new report over the weekend that focuses on GM sales and how Apple's CarPlay is getting some share of credit for the jump in sales that the prominent car maker is reporting.

As of this writing, CarPlay is available in more GM vehicles than any other car maker. And GM seems prepared to bring the technology to more of its fleet in the years ahead.

All told, dealerships are perhaps most excited about this development because they are witnessing strong consumer interest in CarPlay, the WSJ notes.

“We’ve had people coming in because they’ve heard about it, and once they see it, they really do like it because it mirrors the look and feel of the devices they use,” Chris Hemmersmeier, chief executive of a chain of Jerry Seiner Dealerships in Salt Lake City, Utah, is quoted in the report. “It’s helping to close the deal once they see it.”
