  • Apple: iOS Device Users Use Apple Maps 3x More Than Google Maps

When Apple launched its own maps service in 2012, there was a lot of criticism about the functionality and reliability of the mapping service when it replaced the all-too-popular Google Maps alternative that came stock with the operating system pre-iOS 6.

Nevertheless, it would appear that more and more people are taking a liking to Apple Maps as the service has slowly rolled out a lot of the reliability kinks that it faced in the original launch. Apple now says Apple Maps is used three times more by iOS users than its competitor Google Maps is, which means Apple device users are finally warming up to the service as it evolves.

Apple packs new features into Apple Maps constantly, and the additional features help drive the desire to use the maps. Among those is integration with Siri and Yelp, which gives users an easier way to search and a better way to see what's around.

Google Maps still remains the dominant mapping solution for smartphone users in the U.S., but it certainly seems like Apple Maps is gaining solid traction in the navigation race.

People are lazy, and use a built in app rather than taking the effort to download an alternative. Apple maps is still junk outside of North America

I'm never using apple maps again. I once was guided on the opposite side of the feeder. Thank God that there was no traffic. In another instance, I had to somehow jump on top of the bridge that was above me. Google Maps has never given me problems so far.

I think it's moot to try and have a conversation about which one of these two are better...I don't think anyone cares who uses Apple Maps or Google....almost everyone I know uses Waze daily. NOW, before you try to go apesh1t on me, Yes, I know google owns "Waze". Doesn't mean wazers are using the actual "google maps" app. LOL, when I first received my apple watch, i used maps like 3 times so that it would use my watch as well...still garbage even with the watch add-on.

I prefer the look and interface of Apple maps. But Google maps gets better directions in my opinion.

I use both. If I am in Safari, then the native app is Apple Maps. If I am in Chrome, the native app is Google Maps. Whatever works.

Google Maps has a better looking UI, way better resolution on the satellite view and the traffic conditions are much easier to read than Apple Maps. The ONLY advantage Apple has is the map using the lock screen when navigating. My humble 2 cents.

      Apple map sucks.
I only use Waze for navigation.
A lot better live traffic data.

Some recent research polls by Apple blind enthusiasts I'm an apple user who criticize apple when they err) show how much they lack in comprehensive power. Another recent article about Flicker is mostly used by iOS users. In reality it's a negative advertisement for Apple since Android users stick on their native Google's image back up, Apple users forced to use other cloud services due to misery 5GB (if u don't use your iCloud for any other data) compare to Google plus unlimited photos or ever growing Google drive storage.

When a device using one map as default grabbing its one third of users is a big achievement google map achieved.

Another reason for this difference is many apple map users think they are using google map Since both map UI have similar look and Apple continues to use old google map icon on iOS and google had to change the icon.

Some users to even don't know that they can download apps or other alternatives exist.

I wish Apple give me the chance to use best map on the market as Apple always try to use the best services.

They work in Canada and US ok but are complete and utter crap in Europe, Russia and Asia. Google isn't always much better either showing 2way streets where they're 1way etc. Every country's got their own maps solution that works better i find...
