  • Apple to Provide iPhone 6 Plus Devices to More Than 6,000 United Airines Employees

United Airlines recently announced that more than 6,000 customer service representatives based in U.S. hubs will be provided iPhone 6 Plus devices. It was noted that the handset is able to give employees information in a convenient and quick way. The iPhone 6 Plus devices will be given out to representatives beginning 2016 and will be used for customer pre-departure actions.

Actions including printing baggage tags, printing boarding passes, and assisting customers with other flight times and options will all be accessible through the iPhone 6 Plus. United also noted that they are looking to add even more features into the device after the initial rollout. The company wants the device to act as a traditional airport kiosk for customers eventually, as well as complete check-in abilities.

According to United Airlines’ SVP of airport operations, Jon Roitman,
Our employees told us they needed better tools to serve our customers, especially during severe weather and busier travel times. We have seen great success with the custom-made tools on the iPhone 6 Plus and believe expanding the use of a smart phone device with other applications is a great investment in our employees.
Talk of equipping representatives with an iPhone 6 Plus dates back to one year ago, when the company said they would give more than 23,000 flight attendants worldwide a device. United Airlines was the first airline to set up iPads for pilots in 2011 and then the iPad Air 2 last year. Apple is getting their products into education wordwide and now airlines.

Now only if United would make their in-flight entertainment more like Southwest Airlines. I used it last month and wished I was on Southwest. United wasn't my choice so I had to deal with it. Good thing I had my own movies and music on my iPad and iPod.
