  • New Data May Reveal How Well Apple Watch is Selling

Add another IDC report to the pile of articles born of their data this week.

On Thursday, the research giants published a new report on wearables that is proving insight into the flourishing wearables market. If the data is accurate, Apple sold close to 4 million Apple Watch units last quarter (3.9 million, to be exact).

Overall, it's a sales improvement -- though slight -- from the quarter prior.

"Apple posted a slight increase from the previous quarter, mostly the result of additional markets and channels coming on line," the IDC summary notes. "End-user attention has been going toward its entry-level and least expensive Sport line, to which Apple responded by introducing gold and rose gold models. In addition, Apple released watchOS 2, bringing native third-party applications to the device."

Unlike iPhone, iPad, and Mac sales -- about which Apple is happy to discuss in terms of quarterly sales -- the tech giant has been radio silent on how many Apple Watch units have been sold to date.
