  • AT&T to Increase the Monthly Rate for Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans by $5 in Early 2016

AT&T, long upset by customers that refuse to let go of their grandfathered unlimited data plans and always trying to come up with ways to make people want to give them up, is giving even more of those customers grandfathered into unlimited data plans another reason to dislike AT&T.

The carrier has announced on its Web site that it plans to increase the monthly rate of those grandfathered into unlimited data plans by $5 per month starting in February of 2016, bringing the bill for data up to $35 per month from $30. The move shows that AT&T can, and will, impose its powers to modify the terms and conditions of those who signed a contract several years ago.

AT&T notes that this is the first time the carrier has ever increased the price of the grandfathered unlimited data plan users in 7 years, and that it's a move that will help the carrier continue to make the money it needs to keep its network up to date and growing to match the demand of its subscribers.

Customers who have a grandfathered unlimited smartphone data plan will receive notifications of a $5/mo. rate increase for the data plan. The rate increase will take effect starting with the customerís February, 2016 service.
Unlimited data users aren't going to be happy, but there's not a whole lot that they can do about it. AT&T recently got scolded by the FCC over a throttling issue that would occur after just after using a select few gigabytes of data, but AT&T recently bowed to the FCC's complaint by ensuring customers wouldn't be throttled on the grandfathered unlimited data plans until after 22GB of data is reached.

I doubt att was getting any business from you anyway. They were probably losing money. So by you leaving, they'll actually make money.

For 5 more dollars that's a good deal. If you leave for 5 bucks that's just crazy.

Better than Verizon's $20 increase. This is ridiculous.

Att might be losing my business over this. Well, between this, or the 5gb data cap. Or the dropped calls. Or the bad service in my area. Or the cranky customer service. Been a customer for 15 years, but lately, I've been looking elsewhere. ... Customer retention should be awaiting my call

It's 22 GB until they throttle you now. And then only during high usage times and towers.

Here we go, the usual greedy At&T lies. I was on at&t unlimited for 8 years, at first it was great, but then came the throttle. At&T bend me over for 4 long years with there stupid "unlimited" ( throttled @5GB ) data. AT&T HATES the fact that your on an unlimited plan, if they could remove you they would. It is NOT unlimited data if the service is halted at 22GB. Yes I said halted because throttled data is garbage! I moved 6 lines in my household to T Mobile and we could not be happier. My line has the unlimited, 44GB so far this month with ZERO slow down. Service is great. AT&T and Verizon can shove it!

I'd happily pay $5 more to keep my unlimited data. Verizon is increasing ours by $20 ($50 total per line) at 3 lines. Now I'm forced to pick one of these new lame capped plans.

damn thats better then Verizon 20$ increase but then again its the best network so 100 a mouth for unlimited data isnt bad since 18gb plans are 120

I couldn't care less. I wouldn't be an AT&T customer again even if you paid me to do it.

One word comes to my mind for all those long term AT&T customers: SUCKERS!

I wouldn't be upset if I was getting true unlimited for all these years and had to pay $5.00 more. The truth is, out of all these years I've been grandfathered in, I still haven't experienced a consistent year of true unlimited data usage. Thanks for the kick in the noids AT&T!

And yet, after all these years, you're still a customer. I don't get it.

Bigger fish to fry. Almost jump ship a few times. But the data plan maze was like trying to solve a Rubik's cube

You are all a bunch of whiners, I have an att 15gig plan and never have any issues. I would have loved to have kept my unlimited plan but lost it years ago in a fit of a brain freeze.

I have had sprint and T-Mobile and would never go back to them.

If you are burning up 22gig early in the month you are spending your life on the phone. Get a life, pay your 5$ and get on with it.

Moved to a 6GB mobile share plan and then they gave 6GB free a few months ago till the end of 2017. That's 12GB each month plus rollover data lol. Each month I have about 18GB data to use. Giving up my grandfathered unlimited data lower my monthly bill by about $40.00 also.
