  • HP Ready to Take on Apple Watch?

HP is stepping up to the plate in the wearables arena and gearing up to tackle in a market its already dominating.

According to a company announcement Monday, the company is expanding its Engineered by HP program. In this case, HP will collaborate with the world's fifth largest watchmaker -- Titan.

Although HP isn't dishing too many juicy details, they are quick to admit that the partnership will help HP infuse technology into "smart accessories" that are productive and responsive, but not intrusive.

Put differently, HP obviously wants a bigger piece of the wearables market.

"As a brand we are known for our design, manufacturing capabilities, innovation and quality. Moreover, our endeavor has been to always provide our consumers with something new. Our entry into the smartwatch market is another step in this direction," says S. Ravi Kant, CEO of Watches and Accessories Division for Titan Company Limited. "Engineered by HP and Titan make a formidable duo with each lending the other a new dimension, resulting in smart timepieces designed with today's discerning consumer in mind."

I encourage competition, because it's a win-win for the consumer. Who knows...maybe they could be the next (i.e. first) Apple Watch killer.
