  • iPad 2 Still Hanging on, Says Localytics

Apple has released a number of newer and more advanced iPads since iPad 2, but the second generation model refuses to die.

According to the latest data from Localytics, iPad 2 is the tablet that just keeps going.

"Much like our state of the iPad report from last year, the iPad 2 remains the most adopted model, with 20% of the current market share," Localytics says. "Interestingly, Apple’s most recent models, the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 3 and the iPad mini 4, have a combined share of just 12% of the market."

This is not a surprise: iPads have a longer lifecycle due to the lack of a two-year contract that iPhones require. Additionally, when new models are released the prices of the older models drop, making those models more attractive to buyers.
The report, however, suggests that iPad 2 may face a real durability test in the enterprise space now that iPad Pro is coming in a matter of days. Countless businesses with an iPad 2 may soon upgrade, leaving plenty of the second-gen models out of service for the first time since their purchase in 2011.

My 2 year old has the original iPad and it works great! The iPad 2 really is a great tablet, I'm not surprised that it's still going strong.

It's strange but when i hold my iPad2 it's just feels so right and with MHB installed in iOS 9.0.2 Safari runs nice. I have an iPad Air I almost never use but the iPad2 I use every day.
The only tweak I miss is PMP and Firewall IP I hope they get updated for iOS 9.0.2.

My wife and I have the first iPad with Retina display, which I think is the model after 2, now well over 3 years old. They're both on iOS 9 and still running well. I've been trying to talk myself into buying new models, but just don't have any reason to.

Apple just made them too well. All the haters talk about Apple sabotaging their old devices, but ignore how many of the old devices are still out there operating. I imagine it's just their way of mentally compensating for the fact that Android devices hardly ever get updates. Even the nexusss devices are lucky to get past 2 years.

Why does a 2 year old have an iPad?

Not really surprisingly, this thing is more smooth then the iPad3 (I have both). Both are jailbroken on 9.0.2 and have the same speed tweaks and settings in place. I'm pretty sure it's due to the lower resolution screen though.

My 2 year old uses my work iPad more than i do. Why? She likes to watch videos on just about anything. Helps her to learn very quickly. She does not need any help as its just 2 buttons and some hand gestures. Won't update to a new iPad until they put OS X on one :]

Since the original iPad doesn't have Siri; is there an app that creates an emotional bond between child and parent for you so that when your child is growing up you understand each other? Or will you upgrade to a version of the iPad where siri can raise your child?

Why don't you mind your own business when it comes to how people raise their children. You have no idea how often I let my son use the iPad, how long, or what I let him use it for outside of watching a show/movie on it before bed. I'm an IT major and I'm wanting my son to learn technology at a young age because the future is going to become more and more reliant on it. So instead of ASSuming things about what I let my child do with technology you should focus on your own life and your own children if you even have any...

I have an iPad 2 and iPad mini 2 both on 9.0.2 and jailbroken that I have 0 issues with. I really want an iPad Pro but until I get one we'll stick with the iPad 2 and mini 2. My almost 4-year-old uses both to watch her movies and shows and also have her learning apps to work on after school. She's already learning sign language and Spanish.
