  • Many iPhone & iPad Users on iOS 9.1 Report Issues With Touch ID

Although iOS 9.1 may have been released as an update to fix various bugs and problems in the iOS 9 operating system, there are a growing number of users that are reporting problems with Touch ID on their iPhone or iPad following the upgrade to the iOS update.

As pointed out first by Forbes, the problems range from not being able to unlock their devices, to intermittent fingerprint recognition problems, to the Touch ID sensor not even detecting when it's being touched.

Despite launching with a changelog that admitted 11 of its 13 features were bug fixes, iOS 9.1 is raising ire across Apple’s official Support Communities forum for breaking Touch ID across iPhones and iPads – both old and new.

The complaints are similar: users running iOS 9.1 find Touch ID either refuses to recognise a user’s fingerprint, has become highly unreliable or doesn’t even register a fingerprint pressed against it. Users have tried hard resets (holding in the power and home button for 10 seconds) and complete factory resets without any success.
Apple has not yet made a public announcement about the problem, although iOS 9.2 is currently in testing. It's hoped that Apple will not keep its customers waiting as long as it takes to release iOS 9.2 for a fix to the problem. Fortunately, those on iOS 9.0-9.0.2 don't appear to be experiencing these problems, but these are also the buggiest of the iOS 9 releases.

Unfortunately, because Apple stopped signing iOS 9.0.2, there is no way for users to get back to a firmware that worked fine in terms of Touch ID, so those with problems are stuck on iOS 9.1 until Apple decides to fix the problem.

I've been having issues ever since upgrading to 9.1 with Touch ID. However, it hasn't been the issues listed here. Mine is just INCREDIBLY slow. Not always though.

      I haven't had any problems on 9.1.

Oh wait, I'm not on 9.1. Happily jailbroken on 9.0.2.

I'm on 8.4 on 6 Plus and been having this problem, recalibrated prints several times. 80% of the time I'm putting in passcode. Ended up just turning off Touch ID.
