  • Google Updates Google Maps iOS App With Support for Spoken Traffic Alerts & More

On Wednesday, Google has released an update for its Google Maps application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, bringing the application up to version 4.12.0 in the iOS App Store.

The update is a notable one; requested by users for eons, Google Maps now offers users spoken traffic alerts, which allows Google Maps to vocalize when there is upcoming traffic congestion, accidents, and even detailed synopses about what's going on before you approach these zones that may slow down your route.

Moreover, those who've ever wanted to add new or mission businesses to the sidebar now have this ability in the new update. Bug fixes and performance improvements are also a part of this update.

Existing users of Google Maps for iOS will be able to download the updated Google Maps application for free from the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can also download Google Maps for free from this App Store link.

I am happy using my Nokia Here maps , able to use offline navigation with downloaded maps which does not use any data or roaming charges. I set to Offline maps and use it to navigate me from British Columbia all the way to California without incurring any charges.

Waze all the way. Google maps is secondary.

Waze doesn't even have an option to use location "while app is in use". I'm not letting Waze use my location 24/7. Until then, Google Maps all the way FTW.

All the major Waze accident reports are already included in Google Maps. That's all you really need Waze for - accident reports.

I love the upgrade in the last rev of Google Maps which gave us the "5 minutes longer", "8 minutes slower" options on screen. Really tailors your route for the best possible arrival time.. Nicely integrated with Waze.. For me - Google Maps is the Rolls Royce of navigation apps.
