  • Apple Watch Didn't Have Any 'Material Impact' On Fitbit As Sales Increased 3Q 2015

Fitbit recently reported that their revenue has increased 168% year over year to $409.3 million and that the Apple Watch did no ‘material impact’ on the company’s third quarter sales. The numbers were released by Fitbit’s CEO James Park at the results call. Park told investors that his company and Apple serve “two very different segments in the market,” which we can certainly agree with.

We’d say the Apple Watch focuses on style, functionality, and quality (just to name a few) along with many other things, whereas Fitbit focuses entirely on health. We wouldn’t really say the Fitbit looks all that great but it does get the job done. The differences between the two also show in price. Fitbits cost anywhere from $60 to $250 whereas the Apple Watch ranges anywhere from $349 to $17,000.

The two companies serve very different customers to which Park also agrees:

We strongly continue to feel that the Apple Watch and Fitbit are targeting two very different consumers.
Rumors had gone around back in April of this year when Apple’s smartwatch launched that Fitbit sales would drop. However, this clearly wasn’t the case as Apple Watches can only be used by iPhone users, but the Fitbit is compatible with all different smartphone carriers. In the third quarter alone, Fitbit shipped 4.8 million devices.
