  • Apple TV and Google Chromecast No Longer Offered on Amazon

Amazon has removed all Google Chromecast and Apple TV devices from its online store recently as it competes with the companyís own Fire TV lineup. Those who shop frequently on Amazon.com will notice that when searching for the Apple TV or Google Chromecast, neither of which will show up anymore. What you will see however, is Amazonís own Amazon Fire TV show up as a result when searching for the other two set top streaming devices.

The company made the announcement of discontinuing competing products earlier in October due to Ďcustomer confusioní, but never noted when it would actually take place. Amazon most likely also made this decision to boost sales of their own Fire TV and Fire TV Stick products. Although the Chromecast and Apple TV are no longer available, products supporting Prime Video like the Xbox and Roku will still be sold.

Amazon never created an Amazon app or channel on the Apple TV and the removal of the set-top box all in all suggests the company will not be doing so anytime soon either. It is likely the company did not want to pay the mandated 30% in content sales hence why they never created a channel or app for the device. Those who wanted to purchase the Chromecast or Apple TV through Amazon will now have to purchase it elsewhere. How do you feel about the company's decision in removing the products? Share with us in the section below.

I think it is just RIDICULOUS that you can't even find the first generation apple tv on amazon anymore. Amazon is such a nice alternative to the ebay price gougers.

Amazon, reducing your customer base (fewer choices) is never a smart business decision. You will now lose traffic/sales over this. I'm going to ebay/craigslist...

Has anyone else here noticed how if the comments section gets longer than one page, you can't select the next page for viewing? It just refreshes the page and brings you back up top to the first post. I've pointed it out to the site administrator, but yet it has never been fixed. It's been like this for a very long time and is a little annoying. I know its not just me because it has this same behavior on any computer i use regardless of the browser.

Amazon is a MARKETPLACE for darn near anything manufactured under the sun. Except of course for the apple and google tvs. Amazon has no retail presence, they exist online only.

I guess Amazon's logo should change to be "From B to Z".

Apple is a NICHE market retailer for strictly computer/phone related goods. Apple has physical stores. They are limited to what they could display.

….and out of that limit that they can display, have you ever seen Chromecast or FireTV, or ever on their website?
I repeat. They, like all other businesses will pick and choose to sell what suits them.

Happens to me too. The only way I can get to all comments is to go to the top of the page and click total comments.

Try using the Tapatalk App from the app store (if you don't have the ModMyi app stored in iTunes) and not Safari.

What does the Tapatalk app have to do with this? I'm talking about this site being viewed from a desktop computer or laptop. This site is broken and its obvious by the responses above that it happens to everyone. Common Modmyi, FIX IT ALREADY!!

And BTW, if i stop responding, that's because this thread has reached beyond one page and i can no longer get to those pages .

Thank you. That worked. Modmyi should still fix the issue though. Alternative steps should not have to be taken just to skip through pages.

Amazon and Apple have traditionally been entirely different business models. Apple is a product maker and Amazon is a market that tries to be a one stop shop for anything you can think of.

Apple only opened retail stores initially to sell their own product, and mildly expended to sell complementary products. Fire TV is not complementary to any Apple product.

By jumping into the product making business Amazon is becoming at odds with itself. And the result is that they either have to let their own product sink or swim to maintain the integrity of their original business model, or change their primary business model to protect their own product.

By choosing the latter, Amazon is compromising their own vision and basically admitting their product can't compete head to head. It's their right not to sell them of course. I'm sure it won't be long before other media streamers are taken down as well.
